FanDuel MLB DFS Lineup Picks (8/2/21): Daily Fantasy Baseball Advice

Bryce Harper - Philadelphia Phillies

Mike Marteny highlights the top FanDuel MLB DFS lineup picks for8/2/21, and a couple of sleepers to consider while building daily rosters.

There are eight games today, but there is a matinee in Toronto(!) that shortens the main slate to seven games on FanDuel. No pitcher is priced above $9,000, so early on it's looking like a night to stack hitters. Andrew Heaney is making his Yankees debut and Josiah Gray is debuting for Washington. Are either of them worth using? First, the weather.

The only rain chance seems to be in Miami, but it's summer. The roof will likely be closed anyway. There are only light breezes around baseball tonight with mild weather everywhere but Phoenix, even in Dallas. That leaves Arizona as the best hitter's situation of the night.

I'll be providing you with my daily fantasy baseball lineup picks for the FanDuel main slate on 8/2/2021. Be sure to also check out all the MLB player news, including late scratches, and the projected and confirmed daily MLB lineups for each DFS slate. You can also check out today's DraftKings MLB DFS lineup picks, and read more DFS advice and lineup picks for other sports too. Let's get to it!

FanDuel DFS Pitchers

Cash Game/GPP Anchor Play:

Tylor Megill – NYM at MIA ($8,500)

A guy like Megill can be hard to trust since he hasn't made it past the sixth inning yet, but there aren't any elite options on this slate. Anthony DeSclafani has allowed ten runs over his last three starts and gets a big park downgrade regardless of the weather. Megill has allowed just one run in 17.1 innings over his last three starts with 13 strikeouts and only two walks. He's not giving away points and is in a great pitcher's park. That could be a winning combination tonight.

Potential Alternate Play

Chris Flexen – SEA at TB ($7,300)

None of the pitchers besides Heaney have strikeout upside, but I'm not starting Heaney in Yankee Stadium. I'll explain why later. Flexen was blasted by the Astros his last time out, which should drive the ownership down creating a decent leverage situation. Michael Wacha did strike out nine in his last outing, but the Rays aren't letting him go more than five innings at a time. Flexen doesn't get the strikeouts, but he will get the innings. We have plenty of reasons to think that Wacha's strikeouts could be duplicated against a Seattle team that swings and misses a lot, so follow your gut here. My favorite alternate option is in Tampa, whichever side of this you wind up on.

FanDuel DFS Infielders

Rowdy Tellez – 1B, MIL at PIT ($2,600)

This has been a big swing and a miss on pricing on Rowdy. He is hitting .394 with four homers, 11 RBI, eight runs scored, and just five strikeouts over the last ten games. The better plate discipline has led to a huge surge for Rowdy. He will continue to sit against lefties, especially after the Brewers added Eduardo Escobar at the deadline, but lock him in against any righty until he cools off.

Andy Ibanez – 2B, TEX vs. LAA ($2,200)

Ibanez is hitting .344 with a pair of homers, four RBI, and eight runs scored in the last ten games. His hot streak got the struggling Nick Solak exiled to the minors. Ibanez now has the job to himself and has responded with four hits and four runs scored in the last three games. We don't need a ton of value on this slate, but we have it anyway. With Rowdy and Ibanez both ridiculously priced, we can play anyone else we want.

Kris Bryant – 3B/OF, SF at ARI ($4,200)

Bryant hit a home run in his Giants debut yesterday and now heads to a hitter's haven to face Taylor Widener, who has hit the skids of late. He has allowed ten runs over just 8.1 innings in his last two starts. A staggering six walks in that span is doing him no favors. Neither have the three home runs. This Giants offense is only going to be better with Bryant batting second. We could see an explosion by them tonight.

Brandon Crawford – SS, SF at ARI ($3,200)

He's baaaaaack. Crawford has six hits in 16 at bats since his return on Thursday with five RBI, a steal, and a pair of runs scored. With this having the best hitting weather on the slate and a pitcher that has given up ten runs in his last two starts (to Pittsburgh and Texas, both offenses in the bottom third of the league), the Giants are very intriguing across the board and Crawford appears to be a lock.

FanDuel DFS Outfielders

Bryce Harper – OF, PHI at WAS ($4,300)

Harper is on one of the best heaters of his career right now. He has 13 hits in 26 at bats with a staggering 13 walks in the last ten games. Opponents don't want to deal with him either. Harper has three homers, four steals, 13 RBI, and eight runs scored in those ten games as well. Josiah Gray has given up four homers in his first eight innings in the major leagues. I'm thinking Harper, who is on a great run anyway, gets one or gets walked four times. Either way, that's a nice score on FanDuel.

Aaron Judge – OF, NYY vs. BAL ($4,000)

It makes sense to target Yankees since they are hitting .309 against Jorge Lopez lifetime. However, we chase homers in DFS and the only Yankee to homer off of Lopez is Judge. Twice. In five plate appearances and he walked in two of those. Judge has reached base in some form or another in all five plate appearances against Lopez. He may not keep that perfecto going, but points are all but certain tonight.

Trey Mancini – 1B/OF, BAL at NYY ($3,200)

For those of you wondering how Andrew Heaney's fly ball tendencies are going to go in New York, we do have some kind of barometer. He has made three career starts in Yankee Stadium. Heaney is 0-2 with a 8.79 ERA and five homers allowed in 14.1 innings pitched. The Orioles offense has looked decent so far in the second half and they are still hitting .262 against lefties. This righty-heavy lineup is going to hit a homer or two off of Heaney. Make that prop bet and hope you pick the right couple of guys in DFS. Boom Boom Mancini is likely the best bet.
