The Bengals traded away Joe Mixon during the offseason, leaving a vacancy in the backfield. While they signed Zack Moss to replace Mixon, they also feel confident about what they have in Brown ahead of his second pro season.
Brown is an athlete, ranking in the 87th percentile or higher in 40-yard dash time, speed score, burst score, and bench press coming out of Illinois in 2023. He played 12 games in his rookie campaign, tallying 0.91 fantasy points per opportunity (12th-best among all running backs). In his one game with more than 30 percent of offensive snaps, he was the overall RB10 in PPR formats.
#Bengals OC Dan Pitcher on Zack Moss and Chase Brown:
“I’m super pleased with both. Zack’s been the consummate pro. He’s where he needs to be, every single play, regardless of what we ask him to do. He’s caught every ball we’ve thrown to him — like, a lot of contested, hard… pic.twitter.com/vdSJVPQLGZ

Brown's value comes down to his usage alongside Moss this year. Recent comments from the Bengals' coaching staff suggest they may ride the hot hand this season, but Moss offers more of a veteran presence while Brown generates appeal with his burst and receiving skills. There's also an injury concern with Moss, who has missed at least three games in all four of his NFL seasons.
Ultimately, with his youth, athleticism, and receiving prowess, Brown is the preferred back in fantasy football and should be drafted as a high-end RB3/FLEX option. Even if he gets off to a slow start this year, managers should stay the course and bank on Brown being a weekly contributor by midseason.
