Fantasy Baseball Catcher Waiver Wire Pickups for Shallow Leagues
Ivan Herrera, St. Louis Cardinals (47% rostered)
Ivan Herrera was activated off the injured list on Friday and contributed with a two-RBI double. It’s great to see him pick up right where he left off prior to his knee injury, where he hit .381 with four home runs in the first seven games of the season.
He was one of the most popular breakout candidates of draft season, with many thinking he would take a step forward with close to everyday playing time now that Willson Contreras shifted to first base. That seemed to be exactly what was happening through the first week, making him a priority add even in shallow one-catcher leagues.

He’s still under 50 percent owned in Yahoo leagues due to missing the past month, but he could very well shoot into the 60s by the end of this weekend. He posted an excellent .293 xBA and .366 xwOBA in 72 games in 2024, numbers that would make him an elite fantasy option at the position if he keeps it up over a full season. He has true top-3 upside that makes him worth taking a chance on in all leagues.
Sean Murphy, Atlanta Braves (39% rostered)
Sean Murphy is one of the better options for week 7 if you’re looking for a streaming option. He did slow down after his hot start to the season, and is now slashing .217/.316/.494. Despite the poor batting average, his seven home runs have made him an excellent value overall.
There’s a good chance he can increase that home run total in this upcoming week, as the Braves have some of the best matchups in the league. They are one of only four teams that play seven games in the week, with four games against the Nationals and three games against the Red Sox at Fenway.
They are scheduled to face pitchers such as Jake Irvin, Mitchell Parker, Trevor Williams, and Lucas Giolito. Murphy should be rostered more than he is, considering he is a solid top-12 option at the position but is the 18th most owned.
Fantasy Baseball Catcher Waiver Wire Pickups for Deeper Leagues
Gabriel Moreno, Arizona Diamondbacks (29% rostered)
Gabriel Moreno is finally starting to turn things around after a slow start to the season. He launched his first home run of the season on Thursday, a grand slam off Dodgers’ ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
He’s still slashing a mediocre .253/.333/.319 on the season, but he’s looked much more like his usual self in the past couple of weeks. Heading into Friday, the 25-year-old was batting .313 in the last 14 days and .353 in the last seven days. His underlying metrics for the season look great as a whole, suggesting that some bad luck may be coming into play.

He has a .302 xBA that ranks in the 90th percentile and a 93 mph average exit velocity that ranks in the 91st percentile. That’s three miles per hour greater than what he’s produced in any other season of his career, an improvement that should be fueling a breakout year.
It’s looking like that bad luck is finally starting to wear off, making him under-owned at just 29 percent. He remains one of the best options at the position for batting average and still has a chance to be a top-12 catcher for the rest of the season. He’s also a good option as a week 7 streamer, getting six games against the Rockies and Giants.
Ryan Jeffers, Minnesota Twins (19% rostered)
Ryan Jeffers assumed the everyday catching duties for the Twins halfway through April and has been in a groove ever since. Heading into Friday, he was batting .282 over the past 14 days. On the season, he’s slashing a solid .257/.342/.396 with two home runs, 15 RBI, and nine runs through 30 games.
He’s played in 11 of his team’s past 14 games, which is playing time that most catchers are lacking, especially ones who are rostered in less than 20 percent of leagues. The 27-year-old is coming off a 2024 season where he hit 21 home runs and is now more locked in for playing time than ever. He should be universally rostered in all two-catcher leagues and could be a useful streaming option in shallower leagues.
He’s set up particularly nicely for week 7, facing two teams in the Orioles and Brewers who don’t have a ton of top-tier talent in their rotations. Jeffers is lined up to face Cade Povich, Dean Kremer, and Tobias Myers, to name a few.
Fantasy Baseball Catchers Waiver Wire Watch List
Dalton Rushing, Los Angeles Dodgers (4% rostered)
Dalton Rushing is still mashing at Triple-A, patiently waiting for his chance in the big leagues. Through 28 games in the minors this season, he is slashing .323/.442/.521 with four home runs, 21 runs, 14 RBI, and one stolen base. He’s also walked at an excellent 16.7% clip.
The problem, of course, is that Will Smith isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. That’s why the Dodgers started giving him reps at first base and even experimenting with him in the outfield late last season. He recently started in left field for the first time in 2025, right before Teoscar Hernandez suffered a hamstring injury that landed him on the injured list.
There’s still no immediate promotion on the horizon, but the fact that they are still trying him in the outfield suggests that they want to give him the chance to contribute in the majors sooner rather than later. There’s no point in adding and stashing him now, but you’ll want to be quick to action once he finally gets the call.
