Daniel Burdeen - RotoBaller

5043 articles

You won't find a bigger Cubs fan than myself. Aside from my love of fantasy sports, which includes MLB, NFL and NBA, I own my own animal care business. I graduated from Columbia College in Chicago and currently reside in Chicago, IL. My love of fantasy sports started for me in the early 2000's and I have steadily been active with the same group of friends year in and year out for every league in baseball, basketball and football. I am hoping to help all RotoBaller members with any questions they may have. I consider myself an expert with minor league prospects, as it is a love of mine. I hope to give the best advice I can to the RotoBaller world!

Addison Russell Receives Extended Administrative Leave

Chicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell has had his administrative leave extended through Sunday. Russell was placed on administrative leave after accusations of physical and mental abuse against his ex-wife emerged. It is unlikely that Russell will be on the Cubs playoff roster or ever suit up for the club again if the accusations are proven […]

Ben Zobrist Absent On Wednesday

Chicago Cubs second baseman/outfielder Ben Zobrist will rest Wednesday versus the Pirates. Outfielder Ian Happ will draw the start in right field and bat fifth. Happ will face Ivan Nova and he is worth a dart throw in DFS. Zobrist should return to the lineup on Thursday after getting a day of rest on Wednesday.

Ryan LaMarre Picks Up Three Hits

Chicago White Sox outfielder Ryan LaMarre went 3-for-3 with three RBI on Friday versus the Chicago Cubs. Despite the strong effort from LaMarre, he doesn’t get enough playing time to be worthy of a pickup in any format. LaMarre is now hitting .286 with two home runs, 18 RBI and two stolen bases over 161 […]

Kevan Smith Drives In Three Runs

Chicago White Sox catcher/designated hitter Kevan Smith drove in three runs on Friday versus the Chicago Cubs. Smith finished the game 2-for-2 with a pair of runs scored. Smith doesn’t get enough at-bats to make an impact in fantasy leagues, but is now hitting .297 with 19 RBI.

Welington Castillo Picks Up Three Hits Versus Cubs

Chicago White Sox catcher Welington Castillo picked up three hits on Friday versus the Chicago Cubs in five at-bats. Castillo had a nice day versus his former club and also scored a pair of runs. Castillo is now hitting .255 on the season with six home runs and 15 RBI.

Yoan Moncada Remains Hot

Chicago White Sox second baseman Yoan Moncada went 3-for-4 with a run scored and one RBI on Friday versus the Chicago Cubs. Moncada has really been hitting the ball lately and it comes at a good time for fantasy owners. Moncada is now hitting .235 with 17 home runs, 61 RBI and 11 stolen bases.

Daniel Murphy Goes Yard Versus White Sox

Chicago Cubs second baseman Daniel Murphy hit his first career leadoff home run on Friday versus the Chicago White Sox. Murphy finished the game 3-for-5 with two runs scored and a RBI. Murphy has now hit safely in four of his last six games and appears to be back on track after a mini slump.

Daniel Palka Hits 27th Home Run

Chicago White Sox outfielder Daniel Palka hit a pinch-hit home run on Friday versus the Chicago Cubs. The slugger has been a nice source of power for the rebuilding White Sox and now has 27 home runs to go along with 64 RBI and a .242 batting average. Palka remains a cheap power source in […]

Reynaldo Lopez Shines On Friday

Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Reynaldo Lopez sparkled through seven innings versus the Chicago Cubs on Friday. Lopez allowed five hits, one run, zero walks and struck out eight. Lopez gave up a home run to Daniel Murphy to start the game, but settled in after. The strong outing lowers his ERA to 3.94. Lopez […]

Jose Quintana Struggles Versus Former Team

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jose Quintana got roughed up by his former club, the Chicago White Sox, on Friday. Quintana couldn’t record an out in the sixth inning and allowed five runs, nine hits, zero walks and struck out eight over five innings. Quintana’s poor outing raised his ERA to 4.11 on the season. Quintana […]

Kyle Schwarber Returns To Lineup Versus White Sox

Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Schwarber (back) will bat eighth and be the designated hitter on Friday versus the Chicago White Sox. Schwarber has been absent for about two weeks with a back injury. Schwarber is hitting lower in the order than normal, but could do damage against Reynaldo Lopez on Friday.

Jose Abreu Hospitalized On Tuesday

Chicago White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu has been hospitalized with an infection on his right thigh. Abreu is expected to be absent for the teams entire series versus the Cleveland Indians and remains day-to-day. Matt Davidson will play first base on Tuesday and faces a tough matchup against Corey Kluber.

Madison Bumgarner Exits Early On Saturday

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner exited Saturday’s contest early after he felt tightness in his side when he hit a double. Manager Bruce Bochy said that if the situation was different, Bumgarner could have stayed in the game. Bumgarner picked up a quality start on Saturday and went six innings in which he […]

Brandon Belt Won’t Be Shut Down

San Francisco Giants first baseman Brandon Belt (knee) got an MRI on Saturday and it showed no change in his knee. Belt won’t be shut down for now, but the club is likely to monitor his situation throughout the rest of the season. Belt had a strong first half, but has struggled in the second […]

Jon Lester Shines On Saturday

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jon Lester picked up his 16th win of the season on Saturday. Lester allowed two hits, no runs, two walks and struck out nine over seven strong innings. Lester has had a nice season and will face the White Sox in a favorable matchup on Friday.

Steve Cishek Picks Up The Save On Saturday

Chicago Cubs relief pitcher Steve Cishek converted his fourth save of the season on Saturday. Cishek got the call with Pedro Strop (hamstring) and Brandon Morrow (elbow) both sidelined. Morrow is expected back soon, but is likely to be eased back into the closer role. Cishek has closer experience and could see more save chances, […]

Willson Contreras Picks Up Two Hits

Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras went 2-for-3 with a RBI on Saturday to help the Cubs win 1-0. It was nice to see Contreras pick up a pair of hits on Saturday. Contreras was benched for consecutive games on Thursday and Friday and also sat out Tuesday. The Cubs are hoping the rest given to […]

Brandon Morrow Expects To Be Activated Soon

After throwing one inning in a simulated game on Saturday, Chicago Cubs closer Brandon Morrow (biceps) expects to be activated in a few days. This would be a big boost to both the Cubs and fantasy owners as Pedro Strop (hamstring) was ruled out for the season on Friday. Morrow has been out since the […]

Daniel Murphy Out Of Saturday’s Lineup

Chicago Cubs second baseman Daniel Murphy will get a breather on Saturday versus the Reds. Javier Baez will start at second base for Murphy and Addison Russell will start at shortstop and bat fifth. Baez is the better play in DFS on Saturday versus left-hander Cody Reed.

Anthony Rizzo Will Rest On Saturday

Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo will rest on Saturday versus the Reds. The Cubs are on game 26 of 30 straight games and Rizzo will get a much deserved rest. Catcher Victor Caratini will replace Rizzo at first base and bat seventh. Caratini has a nice matchup versus Cody Reed on Saturday and is […]

Jorge De La Rosa Secures First Career Save On Friday

Chicago Cubs pitcher Jorge De La Rosa picked up his first career save on Friday. De La Rosa filled in for Pedro Strop (hamstring) who was ruled out for the season on Friday. The Cubs rested most of their main bullpen arms on Friday and there is no guarantee that De La Rosa will be […]

Pedro Strop Exits Early On Thursday

Chicago Cubs relief pitcher Pedro Strop (hamstring) exited Thursday’s contest early. Strop stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and hurt his leg trying to beat the throw to first base. The Cubs broadcast crew said that it appeared that Strop left with a tight hamstring and there should be more information after the […]

Daniel Murphy Won’t Bat First On Thursday

Chicago Cubs second baseman Daniel Murphy will bat third on Thursday versus the Washington Nationals. Murphy has hit first in all of his games since being acquired by the Cubs, but has struggled of late. First baseman Anthony Rizzo will hit at the top of the Cubs order on Thursday.

Yu Darvish Undergoes Surgery On Wednesday

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Yu Darvish (elbow) underwent an arthroscopic debridement on his right elbow on Wednesday. Darvish also met with Dr. James Andrews to get a second opinion on his elbow. Darvish has had a rough debut season with the Chicago Cubs and is expected to be ready for Spring Training.

Kyle Schwarber Remains Sidelined

Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Schwarber (back) will miss his fourth consecutive game on Wednesday. Schwarber has been dealing with a back issue and remains day-to-day. Third baseman Kris Bryant will shift to left field with Schwarber out. Fantasy owners in the playoffs should feel safe dropping the slugger for a player who can help immediately.

Brandon Belt Will Play On Wednesday

San Francisco Giants first baseman Brandon Belt (knee) will be in Wednesday’s lineup versus the Atlanta Braves. Belt was sidelined on Tuesday with right knee soreness, but did appear as a pinch-hitter. Belt will bat fourth on Wednesday versus Anibal Sanchez. Belt got off to a hot start this year, but has struggled in the […]

Victor Caratini Picks Up A Pair Of RBI On Tuesday

Chicago Cubs catcher Victor Caratini came through with two RBI on Tuesday in the Cubs victory over the Milwaukee Brewers. Caratini finished the game 2-for-3.
