Major League Baseball has requested the assistance of a federal mediator to help resolve the labor issues between the league and Players Association so that a new collective bargaining agreement can be reached, according to a source. The league sees this as the most productive path toward reaching an agreement to avoid any potential delay of the season. However, MLB Network's Jon Heyman is reporting that the union is unlikely to accept MLB's offer for federal mediation to try and bridge the large gap. The Athletic's Evan Drellich reported on Thursday that the league has told the Players Association that it will not make a counter offer after saying two days ago that it would. Spring training is almost certainly to be delayed at this point, and if mediation isn't the path that the two sides take, we could very well be looking at a shortened season in 2022.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerRead More News
