BALLER MOVE: Add in 2QB Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 31% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: A lot of voices have claimed for San Fran to start rookie Trey Lance at the quarterback position all year long, and that happened this past weekend because of Jimmy Garoppolo's thumb injury. Jimmy Garoppolo has not been anything even remotely close to a horrid QB this season, and that's why I recommended adding him to fantasy rosters in advance of W17--he only missed it after a near game-time decision. Only once has Garoppolo finished a game outside of the QB2 realm (all the way back on W4) while playing to QB1 levels in three of his 14 games played through W16 (missed W5 entirely).
Jimmy G is completing a high 68% of his passes this year, and although he had a kinda-rough start to the season (no QB1 finishes in his first five games played topping at 18.6 FP and averaging a measly 13.0 FPPG) he's gotten things more right than not since Week 8 when he exploded against Chicago for 27.3 FP (season-high). Garoppolo has throw for 230+ yards in five consecutive games and is coming off a 322-yard outing in which he threw a TD against 2 INTs. Nothing to like about those picks, I know, but he had avoided getting intercepted in the prior two.
Garoppolo has scored a touchdown (either passing or rushing) in every game this season and missed on passing for one just once in Week 8 when he made up for it with a couple of rushing TDs. It's been four weeks in a row in which Jimmy G has played as the QB16 of the league at the worst, with a couple of borderline QB1 finishes dropping 18.0 and 19.1 FP in back-to-back games on the W13-W14 span. Niners HC Kyle Shanahan has already said that if Garoppolo is healthy and available he will start over Trey Lance. Keep an eye on the news and smash that ADD if that's the case.
