Oakland Athletics catcher Tyler Soderstrom, a highly touted catcher out of Turlock High School, is expected to sign with the A's for around $3.3 million, an over slot deal for the 26th overall selection in the first round. Soderstrom is the son of former Giants first-rounder Steve Soderstrom. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound prep prospect is an athletic left-handed hitter who is bat-first and has a solid and polished approach at the plate. On the defensive side, he has a strong arm but is raw with his blocking and game management, which is why he was the backup catcher in high school. Oakland had to offer over slot value to pry him away from his commitment to UCLA.--Keith Hernandez
