Merrill Kelly Knocked Around In His Spring Debut
Merrill Kelly made his Cactus League spring debut against the Cleveland Indians on Thursday and it didn't end well. He was able to retire just one of the five batters he faced, allowing three earned runs, three hits and a walk with no strikeouts. Kelly threw 27 pitches, and his fastball was clocked around 90-93 mph, and he wasn't fooling any of the Cleveland hitters with the fastball or his slider. He is back after pitching in the Korean League for a couple of seasons, trying to establish himself as a major-league starter. It's early, but the first impression was not very good on Thursday.
