The Atlanta Falcon’s two-headed running back tandem was aggressively effective last season. The dynamic duo helped their fantasy owners rend their opponents dreams asunder every week, due in no small way to Devonta Freeman. After rushing for 1,049 yards, 11 touchdowns, and catching 54 passes for 462 yards and an additional two touchdowns in 2016, expectations are high for Freeman. So high, that he and the Atlanta Falcons are currently having problems putting a dollar amount on just how much value Freeman brings to the team. Not to worry, regardless of how contract negotiations may be currently going, one has to believe that the Falcons aren’t going to let the season begin without having secured their number one running back, and as of this article's writing, Freeman was continuing to participate in practice rather than holdout, which is always a good sign.
At any rate, Freeman is an electric talent who will accumulate yards as the feature back in one of the best one-two running back combos in the NFL. The only real downside to Freeman is whether or not incoming offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian will implement a plan for Freeman that was as effective as former coordinator Kyle Shanahan. Currently, Freeman’s ADP ranks him number 6 among running backs and number 11 overall. Your draft strategy is woefully incomplete if you don’t at least consider Freeman among your top candidates for first round picks, especially in the late picks of the first round. The quick turn-around could help you secure both Freeman and Tevin Coleman, his logical handcuff.
