Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop prospect Konnor Griffin is viewed as the consensus No. 1 prospect in baseball. During the 2025 season, he immediately flashed high upside and was climbing the minor leagues at an impressive rate.
While he was unable to crack the MLB roster after spring training, he was sent to Triple-A, which suggests his MLB debut is quickly approaching.

Konnor Griffin Prospect Update for Fantasy Baseball
On Thursday morning, the Pirates announced that the budding superstar will join the MLB roster ahead of their home opener on Friday. Griffin launched four home runs in spring training and nearly cracked the Opening Day roster despite not taking a single at-bat at the Triple-A level.

However, the Pirates opted to send him to Triple-A to begin the season for a brief five-game stint. During his short time in Triple-A, the former ninth overall selection from the 2024 MLB Draft looked quite comfortable, hitting for a .438 AVG with three doubles and three stolen bases.
Griffin is slated to operate as the primary shortstop going forward and should be in Friday's starting lineup.
Konnor Griffin Outlook for Fantasy Baseball
In his first professional season in 2025, Griffin immediately showcased his legit raw talent, which made him the No. 1 overall prospect in baseball to begin the 2026 season. He played in 122 games (shared between Low-A, High-A, and Double-A) and hit 23 doubles, 21 home runs, and swiped an eye-catching 65 bases. During this season, Griffin carried an overall .333/.415/.527 line.
During his 21-game sample size at Double-A, the 19-year-old looked even more comfortable, hitting for a .960 OPS, which was the highest mark he held over a single MiLB stint.
Given his five-category skill set, managers should look to pick up Griffin in all formats ahead of his MLB debut on Friday. He should be viewed as a high-end starting shortstop in the short term and has the upside to finish as a near top-10 option at the position this season.
