Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Outlooks
Chris Rodriguez Jr., RB, Commanders
Washington Commanders running back Chris Rodriguez Jr. is primed to take on a bigger workload in Week 10 against the Detroit Lions. Rodriguez was named a team captain for Sunday's matchup, and coming off his best game of the season last week against the Seahawks, the 25-year-old is poised to see an increased workload. Rodriguez played 35.5% of the team's snaps last week, which was his highest in a game since Week 4, and handled a season-high 12 carries for 65 yards and a touchdown.
The third-year back out of Kentucky is a physical, downhill-style runner who has earned more opportunities with how hard he's run in his limited opportunities. Rookie Jacory Croskey-Merritt has led Washington's backfield in carries this season, but has struggled over the past four games, averaging just 3.1 yards per carry. Rodriguez is in line to at least split early-down work with Croskey-Merritt in Week 10 and has the potential to emerge as the team's primary ball-carrier.
Travis Hunter, WR, Jaguars
Despite landing on Injured Reserve due to a knee injury that he suffered in practice last week, Jacksonville Jaguars rookie first-rounder Travis Hunter (knee) is "not expected to be out long-term," according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Hunter will be required to miss at least three more games while on IR, but he will be back this year to contribute on offense.
With Hunter out and Brian Thomas Jr. coming down with an ankle sprain in last Sunday's win over the Las Vegas Raiders, the Jaguars acquired pass-catcher Jakobi Meyers from the Raiders on Tuesday. Meyers will give Jacksonville some extra receiver depth with Hunter on IR, while Parker Washington will also see an increased role in the short term. Hunter, 22, had the best game of his young career before the team's Week 8 bye, catching eight of 14 targets for 101 yards and his first NFL touchdown.
All signs were pointing toward him having a bigger role on offense in the second half of the year, and fantasy managers will be hoping that's still true when he's activated off IR. Keep Hunter stashed in all fantasy football leagues.
Woody Marks, RB, Texans
Houston Texans running back Woody Marks could be poised to be the focus of the offense in Week 10 against the Jaguars in the absence of C.J. Stroud (concussion). Marks has been getting more snaps than his fellow running back, Nick Chubb, over the past several games, outsnapping Chubb in four of his last five games. Last week, he struggled to just 27 rushing yards on 10 carries and didn't have any catches against a tough Denver defense that knocked Stroud out of the game.
Marks had been productive as a rusher and receiver in his previous games, posting double-digit PPR points in three of four weeks with three touchdowns during that span. He brings a very high ceiling, but there is also a high risk of him busting if the offense can't get going. He's the No. 29 RB in RotoBaller's rankings, making him a high-risk, high-reward flex play this week.
Nick Chubb, RB, Texans
Houston Texans running back Nick Chubb could help carry the load for the team against the Jaguars in Week 10, since C.J. Stroud (concussion) will be sidelined. Chubb has seen fewer snaps the last few weeks, but he still is getting double-digit carries on a regular basis. He had 11 carries for 34 yards against the Broncos last week after 17 carries for 56 yards against the 49ers in Week 8. Chubb hasn't been very dynamic this season and hasn't ripped off many big plays.
He does have a pair of touchdowns on the year and can bring touchdown-dependent upside in what should be a run-heavy game script with Davis Mills at QB. If the Texans can get out front and rely on their defense, Chubb could have a heavier workload than usual. He's ranked as the No. 35 RB, making him a stretch for a flex play in standard leagues but a fringe option for deep leagues. He will need to find the end zone to deliver on his fantasy potential, though.
Josh Downs, WR, Colts
Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Josh Downs has attracted interest from fantasy managers of late after scoring a touchdown in three straight games. In that span, along with his three scores, Downs has 15 receptions on 19 targets for 138 yards for the Colts. Indy has a crowded receiver room with Michael Pittman Jr., Alex Pierce, and rookie tight end Tyler Warren all demanding targets, but Downs has consistently attracted the eye of quarterback Daniel Jones.
In the last four games, the 24-year-old pass-catcher has had at least seven targets in three contests, and he's caught exactly six passes in three of those four games. He drew a season-high nine targets in last week's loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers with the team down multiple scores for most of the day. The former third-rounder will be looking to score for a fourth straight week on Sunday in Germany against the Atlanta Falcons.
