The San Jose Sharks acquired defenseman Ryan Ellis (back) in a trade with the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday. San Jose gave up forward Carl Grundstrom and defenseman Artem Guryev for Ellis and a conditional sixth-round draft pick. Ellis hasn't played since 2021 due to a back injury, so the deal is just a way for the Flyers to get Ellis' contract off the books. The 34-year-old blue-liner has two seasons remaining on an eight-year, $50 million contract with an annual cap hit of $6.25 million. Guryev has yet to play in the NHL and spent last season with the Wichita Thunder in the ECHL. Grundstrom made 56 appearances for the Sharks last term, posting only nine points (three goals, six assists).--Taavi Pailk
