Kyle Finnegan Set to Return on Friday
Kyle Finnegan (groin) is with the team on Friday and is expected to be activated from the 15-day injured list before the series opener against the Atlanta Braves, according to Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic. Finnegan is expecting to be active. "Ready to go," he said. The 34-year-old veteran will be returning to Detroit's bullpen after going on the IL at the beginning of the month with a strained right adductor. Don't be surprised if the Tigers ease him back into the late-inning mix in the bullpen, but Finnegan should at least be in play to share closing duties with Will Vest by the time the start of the playoffs roll around in October. Since coming over to Detroit at the deadline in a trade with the Washington Nationals, he has not allowed a run in 14 1/3 innings pitched with four saves, 19 strikeouts, and only three walks. Finnegan had 20 saves with the Nats in the first half of the season and has 112 total in his six big-league seasons.
