Paul Goldschmidt Out of Lineup on Sunday
Paul Goldschmidt is not in the starting lineup for his team's game against the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday. The right-handed Goldschmidt has fallen into a timeshare at first base with lefty swinger Ben Rice, who is getting the start against Phillies righty Zack Wheeler. In 390 plate appearances this season, Goldschmidt is hitting .287/.345/.425 with eight home runs, 37 RBI, 58 runs scored, and five stolen bases. A significant portion of his damage has been against left-handed pitching, as he's hit .394 with five home runs in 114 plate appearances against lefties compared to .246 with three home runs in 276 plate appearances versus right-handers. The 37-year-old Goldschmidt is still a productive hitter overall, but he can no longer be counted on for power. His .138 ISO is the worst of his career, and his 7.9% barrel rate is his worst since 2016.
