Paul Goldschmidt Out of Lineup on Sunday
New York Yankees first baseman Paul Goldschmidt is not in the starting lineup for his team's game against the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday. The right-handed Goldschmidt has fallen into a timeshare at first base with lefty swinger Ben Rice, who is getting the start against Phillies righty Zack Wheeler. In 390 plate appearances this season, Goldschmidt is hitting .287/.345/.425 with eight home runs, 37 RBI, 58 runs scored, and five stolen bases. A significant portion of his damage has been against left-handed pitching, as he's hit .394 with five home runs in 114 plate appearances against lefties compared to .246 with three home runs in 276 plate appearances versus right-handers. The 37-year-old Goldschmidt is still a productive hitter overall, but he can no longer be counted on for power. His .138 ISO is the worst of his career, and his 7.9% barrel rate is his worst since 2016.
