Giancarlo Stanton to Get Outfield Reps
Giancarlo Stanton will begin taking reps in the outfield, manager Aaron Boone said Saturday. Boone made the announcement after revealing that outfielder Aaron Judge (elbow) will head to the 10-day injured list with a right flexor strain. Assuming Judge returns in the next couple of weeks, he'll only be capable of DH duties at first, which would push Stanton's bat out of the lineup. The Yankees would like to avoid that by getting Stanton as much time as possible in the outfield. It's in question whether the 35-year-old is capable of taking the field at this stage of his career. His most recent outfield work came over 33 games in 2023. Stanton has exclusively served as a DH since then. The 35-year-old missed the first two and a half months of this season with elbow issues, but he has been a major offensive asset since debuting June 16. Stanton has slashed .277/.358/.532 with seven homers, 20 RBI, and 13 runs scored in 106 plate appearances.
