Florida Panthers defenseman Aaron Ekblad has agreed to an eight-year, $48.8 million contract extension. He has taken a small pay cut to stay with the back-to-back Stanley Cup champions, having finished off an eight-year, $60 million deal. Ekblad had 33 points (three goals, 30 assists) in 56 outings in 2024-25, missing the final 18 regular-season games due to a suspension for a failed drug test. He also recorded 64 blocks and 90 hits. The top pick of the 2014 draft will continue to see heavy usage on the Panthers blue line next season and still has plenty more to give at 29 years old.--Taavi Pailk
