Max Meyer to Visit With Hip Specialist
Max Meyer (hip) said on Wednesday that he will visit with a hip specialist. The news comes after Meyer was seen throwing before Monday's series opener against the Philadelphia Phillies, but he must not have felt great after that. He is recovering from a left-hip impingement, with his last start for Miami coming back on June 2. Even if the 26-year-old receives good news from a specialist, he's unlikely to return to the team's starting rotation until the second half of the year. The former first-rounder (third overall) in 2020 out of Minnesota missed all of 2023 due to Tommy John surgery and teased his upside early last year before struggling down the stretch. Meyer has plenty of strikeout upside, but he was inconsistent again this year before his hip injury, posting a 4.73 ERA and 1.42 WHIP with 68 K's and 20 walks over his 12 starts.
