Jalen McMillan 2025 Fantasy Football Outlook: Will Start Year on IR, Could be Out Until Week 9
Jalen McMillan (neck) after he scored eight touchdowns in his rookie season, things don't look so good now. For starters, he had a massively unsustainable touchdown rate. Over 21 percent of his catches were TDs, and that's just not feasible long-term. Additionally, the team drafted WR Emeka Egbuka with their first-round pick, and he's mostly a power-slot receiver. McMillan isn't likely to earn much of a role in 2025, unless Chris Godwin (ankle) needs more time to recover. Perhaps J-Mac could compete for the WR3 role when star wideout Mike Evans retires, but he hasn't done so yet, and didn't seem to slow down in 2024. Godwin himself signed a contract extension, so he likely isn't going anywhere. McMillan seems to be in line to compete with rookie WR Tez Johnson for the WR4 role, with very little upside unless Egbuka, Godwin, or Evans get injured and miss time. Update 08/19/25: McMillan suffered a severely sprained neck in Tampa Bay's second preseason game against the Buccaneers. According to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, McMillan could be out until Week 9 and return after the team's bye week.
