Rico Dowdle 2025 Outlook: Back To A Reserve Role In A New City
A surprise fantasy football contributor in 2024, the Dallas Cowboys passed on running it back with Rico Dowdle in 2025. Dallas' rushing attack was non-existent before Dowdle took over midseason. Nevertheless, Carolina liked what they saw and offered a one-year deal to the 1,000-yard rusher, and Dowdle jumped at the chance to return to his home state. Although there wasn't a market for the 26-year-old to be a starter, the Panthers are one of the better possible landing spots. Second-year second-round pick Jonathon Brooks will miss the season with his second ACL tear in as many years. Dowdle and fourth-round pick Trevor Etienne will be Chuba Hubbard's reserves. Dowdle already showed he can handle 20+ touches when called upon, and Etienne profiles more as a passing-down back. Dowdle is a high-value insurance running back in 2025. Should something happen to Hubbard, he will slot in as a weekly RB2.
