San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (shoulder) has proven his value to his team on many occasions. There aren't many doubters of 2023's Mr. Irrelevant left, and with each month of NFL play, their numbers dwindle further. He proved how much he meant to the team's offense in Week 12 without taking the field.
He was surprisingly declared as "Out" due to a recent injury he picked up. The team was obliterated by the Green Bay Packers 38-10 and mustered just 241 total yards of offense. They were completely outclassed by the Packers offensive attack. SF clearly needs Purdy back to have any chance of making the playoffs.

Brock Purdy Injury Update for Fantasy Football
It can't be ignored that the 49ers have the bane of all fantasy football managers as their head coach, Kyle Shanahan. It wouldn't be a surprise if we get misleading speculative information from him. But Purdy apparently did some "light throwing" without any setbacks on Monday.

It's not great that he can't throw the ball at full speed, and he'll need to make a lot of progress to be a full go on Sunday night. Also, he apparently got a second MRI on his throwing shoulder. That's also cause for concern. We're unlikely to get accurate information from the organization, so we're better off speculating for now.

Based on the information we have, it wouldn't be a shock if Purdy were to sit out another week. Fantasy managers should act as if he won't play and get backup options at the quarterback position if they have Purdy and potentially for receivers. The 49ers face the Buffalo Bills, who have an elite pass defense, on Sunday Night Football.
It's a nightmare matchup for the pass-catchers, especially if they have QB Brandon Allen throwing to them.
Brock Purdy Fantasy Football Outlook
His production could take a hit when he returns. He'd likely be playing through significant pain. The 49ers are well known for trotting out their players through a variety of ailments. They're known as the 49IRs for a reason. It seems that they're disproportionately hurt too often.

It's unlikely that Purdy was simply having "soreness" as Shanahan stated. What a shocker, he lied again. There could be some kind of sprain or a small tear to one of his ligaments. A muscle strain is also possible. We simply won't know his return timelines or whether he'll be 100% when he comes back.
He moves down to a high-end QB2 when he's back because of uncertainty about his health.
