Chad Green is a fantasy baseball waiver wire pickup for closers and saves. Target Green as a free-agent relief pitcher for saves on the waiver wire.

ANALYSIS: Injuries to closer Jordan Romano and presumed backup option Erik Swanson have thrown the Blue Jays' end-of-game sequence into flux, with manager John Schneider stating that it will be a closer-by-committee situation. That means Tim Mayza, Yimi Garcia, or Chad Green will be in line for save opportunities; however, through six games, it's starting to become a little clearer who they'd prefer in the intermediate term. If not clearer, then at least less murky.

It seems more like a two-horse race, with Garcia not pitching in the final inning in either of his appearances, while Mayza has closed out games twice and Green three times. It'll presumably be based on matchups, with Mayza coming on in the eighth inning Tuesday to get the lefty-lefty matchup with Yordan Alvarez and Kyle Tucker. Green relieved him in the eighth, however, and stayed on for the ninth, ultimately earning the win after the Jays scored twice in the top of the ninth to win the game 2-1.

Neither pitcher had a great spring, but if there's something to hang your hat on, it was Green's 11:1 K:BB in eight spring appearances. Neither Green nor Mayza are slam-dunk adds in 12-team leagues, and even in deeper leagues caution is warranted.

With Romano and Swanson not expected to miss much more time, it's even more reason for managers not to overspend on these relievers. For managers desperate enough, Green is available in over 90% of Yahoo leagues (same with Mayza), so he's yours if you want him.
