Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

Ellis Canady reviews last night's MLB box scores (8/9) and provides fun opinions on a variety of topics to help fantasy baseball owners with their lineups.

Welcome to the Saturday, August 10th edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on August 10th. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and resources:

Daily Musings

  • Matt Chapman w/career-best in HR (25), BB (11%), & SwingStrike rates (8%). 26-year-old stud.
  • Mike Fiers looking ace-like w/7IP, 0ER, 8K. 3.50ERA(4.50FIP).
  • James McCann had to slow down at some point. .173AVG in July. 0HR in August. 1.8WAR still more than expected.
  • Jose Altuve back where he should be w/.301AVG. 19HR & only 4SB. Result of the knee injury, age, or lack of need?
  • Hit streak stops. Bright career only starting for Bo Bichette.
  • "Leave the regulars at home." ~ Mike Tauchman w/12th long ball(fifth in last week).
  • Streaky Teoscar Hernandez. Come for the dirt-cheap power & dabble at speed. Leave for the .224AVG.
  • Let's see if the Danny Jansen hype train starts back up after his 10th mountain blast, a 405ft charge.
  • The game looks so easy for Ronald Acuna. Two-homer game(32). C'est La Vie!
  • Batting second (4HR, .326AVG) isn't even Ozzie Albies best-performing spot this year (6HR, .361AVG at 8th spot).
  • Jon Berti? More like Jon Eagle flying around the bases for Fifth SB. No? Dad joke of the day. Check.
  • Rafael Devers third in league w/90 RBI thanks to 24th HR.
  • Will J.D. Martinez owners pout at end of the season? Two long balls give him 27HR w/72R, 71RBI, .310AVG. 2.6WAR is still good & season isn't over yet.
  • "Oh, Mookie Betts is a failure" ~ many Betts owners. 106R(leads majors), 20HR, 12SB, .281AVG good for 4.3WAR. Stop being greedy. Be thankful.
  • Nicholas Castellanos continues onslaught (4HR, .448AVG last week) with the improvement of the cap from 'D' to 'C'. Only 84% owned. Get the lead out.
  • Aristides Aquino shows why he's getting everyday playing time. Fourth dash of spiciness. 44% owned. Get in on the action.
  • Trevor Bauer gets 10th W.
  • Yu Darvish Ks nine, walks zero. Far cry from early-season struggles.
  • Eugenio Suarez is going to get there. Taking sweet time (31 homers).
  • Joe Jimenez is the man. One-out saves are the best.
  • Jorge Soler gonna have a tough time repeating at this pace. 32HR.
  • Why are you sad? Whit Merrifield bested 2018 numbers w/13th tater. Oh, the piddly 16SB. Be thankful. Kids from BFE don't have any SB.
  • Juan Soto, here's your 20/10-club card. Now search for the hidden 25/15-club entrance.
  • 24 SB. Trea Turner will not be stopped! (Yes, I know he's been caught four times this year. Stop ruining my excitement).
  • Peter Alonso back w/big boys(38HR). Fourth-straight game w/ a hip-shaker!
  • J.D. Davis only 35% owned?! He's valuable & free.
  • Delino DeShields w/three SB. Damn, he's fast. No, I wouldn't hurry to add him unless you absolutely, positively can't live without SB, all other stats be damned.
  • It won't always be hunky-dory for Trent Grisham. 3K. That's why its called development.
  • Twins offense less potent without Nelson Cruz(IL).
  • Shane Bieber joins 12-win society w/11K.
  • Eddie Rosario sends 25th souvenir into stands.
  • Jose Ramirez up to 24SB. A hush falls over his owners, giddy w/production.
  • Only six games back and Marcell Ozuna already has back-to-back HR games(22).
  • Emilio Pagan gets tarnished SV(10).
  • Mark Melancon is new Braves closer.
  • Kenley Jansen stumbled. No worries.
  • Carson Kelly adds two taters(16) to his development.
  • Archie Bradley actually successful this year. Third SV.
  • Cal Quantrill makes the Rockies look like White Sox, 7IP, 0ER, 5K.
  • What?! Bryce Harper w/two long balls(22). You can't just come in here & win my love back after a long absence.
  • Have a great Saturday. Enjoy some sun. Stay active.
  • No Fear, Just Fantasy.
