Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

Ellis Canady reviews last night's MLB box scores (7/25) and provides fun opinions on a variety of topics to help fantasy baseball owners with their lineups.

Welcome to the Friday, July 26th edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on July 26th. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Daily Musings

  • Who wins fantasy baseball leagues? The team whose players don’t believe in the IL.
  • Troy Tulowitzki retires. Excellent career and you have your health. What else do you need?
  • Madison Bumgarner stays in SF?! In order for a rebuild to take place…a rebuild needs to take place.
  • Jacob deGrom back to normal 7IP, 0ER, 9K. Will Edwin Diaz be around to close games out (at least attempt to)?
  • Fantasy Gods, you can kiss my …..?!?!**!?!?  Blake Snell has surgery. Seriously?! Joey Gallo w/surgery.
  • Forgive me. It’s been four days since Peter Alonso’s last HR. I feel lost.
  • Paul Goldschmidt w/four-straight games with daily deposits(22). Who needs speed when you have power? Maybe a little would be nice.
  • The Musgrove Mystery continues. One thing is for certain, NEVER start Joe Musgrove vs the Cardinals. 12.2IP, 19R, 17ER, 12K. 12.08ERA. 2.13WHIP.
  • Max Scherzer eases into return w/5IP, 3ER, 8K. Braves next.
  • Not the Daniel Murphy you were excited for when he went to Colorado, but 5HR, 14RBI, .311AVG in last month is still nice.
  • Victor Robles RoY campaign continues. 14HR, 17SB, .243AVG. Power & AVG will need to pick up to be a real contender. .300/.392/.457 slash in minors. He’s definitely a buy in dynasty leagues.
  • Ryan McMahon just needed a chance, some confidence, someone who believes in him. Good luck in Colorado. 11th HR w/three RBI will help.
  • Love birds come in pairs, Xander Bogaerts abides with two love birds(23) in Fenway.
  • Rafael Devers top-10 in avg exit velo(92.8). He’s first in balls exceeding 95mph (165) and number one in our hearts w/his smooth melodies. “Every time I close my eyes, I thank the lord that I’ve got you…and you’ve got me too.”
  • Jose Berrios’ train motors along 7IP, 2ER, 8K. Marlins next. Haha. I love it!
  • Once, Twice, Three times a Masher. Nelson Cruz is white-hot right now. 3HR game(one was a 473ft bazooka shot). 7HR in last 6 games.  Say What?! Only 88% owned? It was 87% yesterday. One percent?!?! That’s it? %#$*?!@!%#! Pause. Let me do my Lamaze breathing. Wait. If you’re reading this then you’ve already picked him up weeks ago. Ok, we are good. Reach out & help the less fortunate. Spread the word. 93.8mph avg exit velo ranks 2nd.
  • While many are celebrating(Only 88%) Cruz’ festivities, there must be sadness in the world. Lucas Giolito. 5IP, 7ER, 7K. {background music: I Want To Go Outside - The Dramatics  “I want to go outside, in the rain. I don’t want you to see me cryin’.” He won’t be alone as Tanaka is already standing there.
  • “Hey Boss, it’s been 7 runs, do you think we should take Masahiro Tanaka out of the game?” “Hold….HOLD!   psst…I’m in this TGFBI thing and my competition has Tanaka….just wait a little longer. ” “OK, boss, it’s now 9 runs.” “HOLD!!!” “C’mon, he’s getting killed out there. 10 & 11 jjust came in.” “Ok, but send someone out there to let that last one come in too. 3.1IP, 12ER, 4K is perfect.”
  • While I’d like the fun brothers to get back together. Francisco Lindor & Jose Ramirez are finding success where they are with Lindor leading off(17HR, 15SB) & Ramirez in fifth spot(11HR, 22SB).
  • Hunter Dozier going underrated. 16HR, 55RBI. .286/.373/.542 slash. 11.7%BB, 22.4%K rates. 92.1mph avg exit velo. 28%Chase. 9.8%SwingStrike. Very attractive option for 2020…of course now too.
  • Gallo seeks long term care. Danny Santana benefits. 14th HR, 6RBI (12SB, .322AVG). 62% owned w/bunch of eligibility. 41.7%Chase & 15%SwingStrike rates send huge red flags, but he’s making it work…like Javier Baez does. No, he’s not Javier Baez.
  • Griffin Canning owners can’t catch a break. Comes in for the 15th & 16th innings. 2IP, 5ER, 2K. Only one walk if you’re looking for a bright side.
  • Jonathan Villar goes Berzerker!! 12th HR, 3SB.
  • Trey Mancini gets one hit in eight innings. 23rd HR thankfully.
  • Have a great Friday. Finish the week off right.
  • No Fear, Just Fantasy.
