Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 7:
Evan Engram, TE, Denver Broncos
Denver Broncos Tight End Evan Engram will likely continue to be a focal point of the offense in Week 7 against the New York Giants at home.
Coming off a season high of six touches, he should still be relied upon as a great check-down for Broncos quarterback Bo Nix. Engram has had at least six targets in the last three weeks and should continue to earn a fair share of the targets.
If Engram finds himself on the field for his first game over 50% of the offensive snaps, he could become a more reliable option moving forward. As RotoBaller's 18th-ranked tight end for Week 7, Engram is still a touchdown-dependent option.
T.J. Hockenson, TE, Minnesota Vikings
Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson is a middle-of-the-pack TE2 option with his team set to play host to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 7.
Not only has the veteran tight end's production swung wildly from week to week, but the Eagles have been particularly good against fantasy tight ends, holding them to the fourth-fewest points. However, Hockenson has had better production with Carson Wentz, who will start Sunday with J.J. McCarthy (ankle) listed as questionable as he returns from injury.
Still, Hockenson has finished among the top 15 fantasy tight ends just once in five tries, making him hard to trust in formats that play only one tight end.
Harold Fannin Jr., TE, Cleveland Browns
Cleveland Browns tight end Harold Fannin Jr. turned in a big performance in his team's Week 6 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, catching seven of his 10 targets for 81 yards.
He has a chance to build on that performance in Week 7's home game against the Miami Dolphins. Fannin is lined up to see an increased role against Miami as the Browns have already ruled David Njoku (knee) out for Sunday. He should see plenty of work from Dillon Gabriel, who has targeted Fannin and Njoku a combined 29 times over his two starts.
Fannin sets up as a top-10 fantasy tight end against a Miami defense that is allowing the sixth-most fantasy points per game to his position this year.
Mason Taylor, TE, New York Jets
New York Jets rookie tight end Mason Taylor is poised to see a more significant target share this weekend when his team squares off with the Carolina Panthers. The LSU alum's usage was trending in the right direction over the previous few weeks, but his production bottomed out in a tough matchup with the Broncos in London.
Although that isn't prescriptive moving forward, it's a firm reminder of the floor of the Jets' passing offense. Taylor will look to put last weekend's performance in the past, and figures to absorb a few extra looks with the news that wide receiver Garrett Wilson (knee) might miss Sunday's contest. If that comes to fruition, it wouldn't be surprising to see the 21-year-old make a sizable impact.
Even if Wilson suits up, it's likely he does so at less than 100%, giving Taylor a slightly higher fantasy floor. He's a high-end TE2 and, officially, RotoBaller's PPR TE16 for his outing with the Panthers.
Michael Mayer, TE, Las Vegas Raiders
Las Vegas Raiders tight end Michael Mayer is expected to take on a significant role in Sunday's divisional showdown against the Kansas City Chiefs. With Brock Bowers (knee) listed as doubtful and wide receiver Jakobi Meyers (knee) questionable, Geno Smith may once again look heavily toward Mayer in the passing game.
The 24-year-old tight end led the Raiders in targets last week, converting seven looks into five receptions for 50 yards and a touchdown.
Mayer has developed into a trusted red-zone option and reliable safety valve for Smith, giving him strong streaming appeal for fantasy managers in need of a tight end. Given the potential for increased volume and scoring chances, Mayer profiles as a back-end TE1 potential in Week 7.
