Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks

Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 17:

Saquon Barkley, RB, Philadelphia Eagles

Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley last week recorded his second-most rushing yards in a game this season, torching the Commanders for 132 and a touchdown. Barkley has gotten hot lately, with 332 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 63 carries over the last three weeks. On Sunday, he may feast again versus a Buffalo defense that gives up 144.3 yards per game on the ground, which is the fourth-most in the NFL. The Bills have also allowed a league-leading 24 rushing touchdowns through 15 games.

Given the sheer amount of volume Barkley has had recently and his 5.3 yards per carry since Week 14, he's primed for a huge day. While he's been relatively uninvolved in the passing game recently, having just two receptions over his last four outings, it shouldn't matter much this weekend. Barkley looks like himself again, and he's a mid-tier RB1 as fantasy playoffs near their end.

De'Von Achane, RB, Miami Dolphins

Miami Dolphins running back De'Von Achane is once again a top-ten starting option this week as his team hosts the Bucs. Rookie Quinn Ewers will make his second straight start at quarterback for Miami, and last week Achane had 81 rushing yards and nine receiving yards in support of the rookie in the team's 45-21 loss to the Bengals. Achane had one touchdown, giving him 12 scores on the season, and he's already up to 1,267 rushing yards and 459 receiving yards with two games to play.

The Bucs have been a fairly neutral matchup for running backs this season, giving up 14 RB touchdowns in 15 games with an average of 53.6 receiving yards out of the backfield for the position. Achane is the No. 7 RB in the RotoBaller Week 17 rankings, making him a strong start in most standard-sized leagues, since he's been a fantasy stalwart despite his team's struggles this season.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba, WR, Seattle Seahawks

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba is in a position to dominate once again in Week 17 against the Carolina Panthers. Carolina has a solid passing defense, but JSN has proven to be matchup-proof time and again this season. Smith-Njigba's target share is simply too large for him to bust in most games. Additionally, the Seahawks move him all over the field and scheme plenty of looks for the third-year pro. Although Carolina has a talented secondary, it will be difficult for them to keep track of JSN at all times.

This is a must-win game for both teams. There is a path for Carolina to clinch its division this week, and the Seahawks need this win to vie for the No. 1 seed in the NFC. As such, this could be a higher-scoring game than many may expect. If Carolina's offense can put some pressure on Seattle's defense, it will only serve to boost Smith-Njigba's targets if Seattle needs to continually air the ball out. Start JSN as your anchor during championship week and do not look back.

Chris Godwin Jr., WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin Jr. has carved out a consistent role for himself in this offense. The 29-year-old has seen five or more targets in four straight games. The problem has been his yardage, with a combined 50 receiving yards over the last two games. Godwin will get a decent matchup against the Miami Dolphins in Week 17.

The veteran wideout appears to have good chemistry with quarterback Baker Mayfield. The Bucs have a lot of mouths to feed, but Godwin has earned some trust with a steady target share. Fantasy managers should be able to plug in Godwin as a reliable WR3 for Week 17, albeit with a low floor and ceiling.

Davante Adams, WR, Los Angeles Rams

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports that the Los Angeles Rams "very well could shut down" wide receiver Davante Adams (hamstring) for the final two regular-season games. Head coach Sean McVay already said that Adams is doubtful to play on Monday night against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 17, and a team source told Fowler that "it wouldn't be a surprise" to see Adams also miss the Week 18 regular-season finale against the division-rival Arizona Cardinals.

The Rams' goal is to "ensure Adams is 100 percent for the first week of the playoffs." Adams is currently considered week-to-week after aggravating his hamstring injury on Dec. 14 against the Detroit Lions. The Rams held him out of last Thursday's overtime loss to the Seattle Seahawks, and fantasy managers shouldn't expect to have him the rest of the way. Konata Mumpfield, along with star Puka Nacua, could be the biggest beneficiary in L.A.'s passing attack if Adams misses two more games.
