ANALYSIS: The Jacksonville Jaguars backfield has been one of the most discussed positional groups during the offseason. With Liam Coen taking over head coaching duties, this entire running back group could be in store for a massive bounce-back season in 2025. Last fall, Coen helped running back Bucky Irving become a breakout at his position, and many fantasy managers hope he can do the same in Jacksonville.
However, currently, there are two capable NFL running backs on the depth chart, such as Travis Etienne Jr. and Tank Bigsby. In addition, the Jaguars added rookie Bhayshul Tuten in the 2025 NFL Draft, who was one of the most effective running backs in college football last season.
As a result, this can be tough for fantasy football, as their roles are not clearly defined.
During the preseason, Etienne and Bigsby typically shared time for the starters. However, during their preseason contest against the Saints, the Jaguars opted to deploy Bigsby with the first team in both short-term situations and passing substitutions, which is a very positive sign.
Despite this, Etienne still figures to have a prominent role at least early in the season. Given their uncertainty, Bigsby is best viewed as a desperation RB3 in their Week 1 match against the Panthers. If he can carve out a more solidified role, he could enter RB2 status later in the season.
