Houston Texans wide receiver Chris Moore broke out in the narrow loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 14, pacing Houston in targets, receptions, and receiving yards.

The 29-year-old strung together the best game of his seven-year career, torching a beat up Cowboys’ secondary.

The veteran out of Cincinnati was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft and signed with Houston last season after playing in Baltimore from 2016-2020.

What Did Chris Moore Do In Week 14?

Moore secured 10 receptions on 11 targets for 124 yards against Dallas in Week 14 with a mix of Davis Mills and Jeff Driskel under center. He nearly found the endzone near the end of the game to go up by two scores but was called down short.

Houston was unable to find the endzone on that drive and ended up losing the game. Moore’s Sunday numbers for targets, receptions, and yards all marked career highs.

What Has Chris Moore Accomplished This Season?

Prior to Sunday’s breakout game, Chris Moore only had two games where he had eclipsed three receptions (four in Week 9, five in Week 11). He has scored two touchdowns on the season.

With fellow receivers Brandin Cooks and Nico Collins out, Moore was viewed as a dart throw in fantasy lineups and he came through strong for those who were brave enough to start him. 

Cooks’ and Collins’ statuses will need to be monitored going forward, as Moore will not see this kind of volume with one or both of them in the lineup.

Should I Pick Up Chris Moore?

While Moore’s game Sunday was a strong showing from a fantasy perspective, history suggests that this is going to be his best game of the season. Moore has played in the NFL for seven seasons and has never been a consistent contributor. He was fed targets due to two more talented receivers battling injuries.

If Nico Collins and Brandin Cooks are both to miss another game, Moore would be an intriguing play against Kansas City in Week 15. Jerry Jeudy just scored three touchdowns against Kansas City in a bad offense where he was the clear-cut top target. If even one of Collins or Cooks returns, Moore is not worth playing.

With both receivers expected back soon, Moore can be left on the waiver wire this week.
