Is Romeo Doubs A Good Fantasy Football Pickup For Week 4? Waiver Wire Outlook

Romeo Doubs - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, Waiver Wire Pickups

Should I pick up Romeo Doubs for fantasy football Week 4? Is Romeo Doubs a good fantasy pick off the waiver wire? Read the fantasy football outlook for 2022.

All offseason, the fantasy football community examined who would replace Davante Adams as the Packers' No. 1 WR. Would Allen Lazard, the guy with the most chemistry with Aaron Rodgers step up? Would the blazing-fast rookie out of North Dakota State, Christian Watson, be the guy? What about longtime Packer Randall Cobb or the former Pro-Bowler Sammy Watkins?

Well -- it might be none of the guys listed above. Instead, it just might be the fourth-round pick out of Nevada in the 2022 NFL Draft, Romeo Doubs. Against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he caught all eight of his targets for 73 yards and a touchdown -- in just his third game as a pro. Watkins (hamstring) and Watson (hamstring) were out, but it was a notable breakout performance from a rookie.

Should Doubs be considered the No. 1 WR for Rodgers moving forward and should you pick him up before Week 4? Let's discuss.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2025:

Romeo Doubs Prospect Profile

During Doubs' four-year career at Nevada, he accumulated 225 catches for 3322 yards and 26 touchdowns. He produced north of 1,000 receiving yards in each of his final two seasons. Of course, he wasn't playing against stellar competition in the Mountain West Conference, but his college production certainly checks boxes.

However, his athletic testing leading up to the draft wasn't noteworthy. His 4.55 40-time and 96.5 speed score are adequate at 6-foot-2, 204 pounds, but far from elite compared to others in his draft class. That said, his fourth-round draft capital proved he had a chance to make a roster and have a role in an offense right away.

Week 3 Breakout At Tampa Bay

Doubs posted a 22.9-percent target share (eight total targets) and didn't drop a single pass. He also led the team with 73 receiving yards. There's been much discussion from Aaron Rodgers about rookies dropping passes, so this could be a good sign for Doubs. Veteran wideout Allen Lazard has never caught eight passes in his NFL career, and Watkins and Cobb haven't surpassed seven catches since 2020.

Rodgers trusted him in the red zone and clearly trusted him all over the field. Rodgers has been known for being slow to trust new receivers, so the fact that Doubs was counted on early and often in just his third NFL game spells good news for his future fantasy outlook.

Is Romeo Doubs the WR1 in Green Bay for Aaron Rodgers?

Nobody came to read this article to be told "maybe," but that's about all we can say at this point in the season. Sure, Doubs had an awesome game in Week 3, but it's too early to draw a definitive conclusion about his status in the Packers' pecking order. We have just a one-game sample of Doubs producing, so it'd be lazy to simply assume he's the guy.

Watson could be back as soon as next week, and Lazard is getting further removed from the injury that held him out in Week 1. Ultimately, Doubs has been the only healthy wide receiver for Green Bay through all three weeks, so there's a chance he simply took advantage of his opportunity.

That said, Doubs has the chance to build on this performance and be the Packers' No. 1 wideout in a weak receiver room with no established studs. He's worth picking up on fantasy rosters if available, but it's just too early to crown him as a rest-of-season stud and surefire breakout.
