Quentin Johnston Week 2 Waiver Wire Outlook
In their Week 1 victory, Johnston led the team in receiving as he tallied 79 yards on five receptions. More importantly, Johnston found the back of the end zone twice.
While this production suggests that he could be in store for a breakout season, in this game, Johnston was still third on the team in targets. In this contest, Johnston saw seven targets while Ladd McConkey saw nine, and Keenan Allen saw 10.
In addition, with Jim Harbaugh leading the coaching staff, fantasy managers should expect the Chargers to lean more heavily on their run as the season progresses. They selected to run back prospect Omarion Hampton in the opening round, and he will likely continue to take a step forward as he grows accustomed to the NFL.
Despite serving as the tier in the wide receiver room, Johnston should provide WR3 value going forward and is worth adding in all 12-team leagues.

Should I Pickup Quentin Johnston in Week 2?
While managers in leagues that require 3-WR and have 12+ teams should look to add Johnston, managers in more shallow formats with only two wide receiver spots should look to keep Johnston on the waiver wire. Even though he had an impressive showing, he is likely still the third option in this offense.
While Justin Herbert could sustain three wide receivers, if they begin to lean on their rushing attack, Johnston would likely be the one to lose target opportunities, and not Allen and McConkey.
In 2024, Johnston found the back of the end zone eight times but only averaged a modest 11.6 PPR points per game. Given his role as the team's No. 2 WR, he carries solid WR3 value in 12+ team leagues and low-end flex appeal in shallower formats.
While he is worth a speculative stash in shallower formats, he may be tough to trust on a weekly basis serving as the No. 3 WR on the team.
