4 days agoLos Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler only handled four carries for five yards but hauled in all eight of his targets for 48 receiving yards in a 38-10 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Ekeler's utilization to begin the season has been frustrating for fantasy players and he is yet to find the end zone. Despite being out-carried by Sony Michel, Ekeler's eight receptions led the team as he has been highly involved in the Chargers' passing attack. The lack of rushing attempts can be partially explained by Los Angeles trailing for the entire game. Better days should be ahead for Ekeler, who will remain an RB1 going forward.--Jorden Hill - RotoBallerSource: ESPN

6 days agoLos Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler has yet to find the end zone this season but still posted a solid PPR fantasy performance in Week 2. This week, he gets a home matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars, who just limited Jonathan Taylor to less than eight fantasy points last week. With quarterback Justin Herbert (ribs) questionable to suit up, the Chargers' usually high-powered offense could struggle if Chase Daniel draws the start. Ekeler still figures to be heavily involved, especially if the Jaguars get out to an early lead. Running backs Sony Michel and Joshua Kelley have seen the field more than fantasy managers hoped, but Ekeler is still a key piece of the offense and should be fired up as a top-12 option at the position, regardless of who is under center on Sunday.--Jorden Hill - RotoBallerSource: RotoBaller

2 weeks agoLos Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler handled 14 carries for 39 yards and added nine receptions for 55 yards on 10 targets in the team's 27-24 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Ekeler again ceded some snaps to Joshua Kelley and Sony Michel, with the latter even taking the goal-line work early in the contest. The good news is that Ekeler was heavily utilized as a receiver throughout the game, especially in the fourth quarter with the Chargers trailing. Perhaps fantasy managers should temper their expectations for Ekeler's touchdown upside going forward, but he is still a primary weapon on a high-flying offense. A Week 3 matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars is on deck.--Jorden Hill - RotoBallerSource: ESPN

2 weeks agoLos Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler had an underwhelming Week 1 performance and will look to get back on track against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 2. There was a surprising amount of utilization for Sony Michel and Joshua Kelley in Los Angeles' season opener, but Ekeler still saw the most targets out of the backfield and all of the goal-line touches. The Chargers also led the Raiders for almost the entire game, so Ekeler could see more snaps in what should be a back-and-forth battle with the Chiefs this week. With Keenan Allen (hamstring) officially ruled out, additional targets will be available for Ekeler as well. Fantasy managers should still deploy Ekeler as a high-end RB1 until further notice.--Jorden Hill - RotoBallerSource: RotoBaller
Share:
3 weeks agoLos Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler handled 14 carries for 36 yards, adding four receptions for 36 yards on four targets in the team's Week 1 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. Ekeler was unusually inefficient in this one and ceded some snaps to Sony Michel and Joshua Kelley, but still received more touches than the two of them combined. Fantasy managers surely expected more out of their first-round selection but should continue to feel confident in his role on a high-flying offense. Ekeler will look to be more productive in next week's divisional showdown with the Kansas City Chiefs.--Jorden Hill - RotoBallerSource: ESPN
Share:
3 weeks agoRunning back Austin Ekeler and the Los Angeles Chargers will face off against the Las Vegas Raiders in an exciting Week 1 home opener. Ekeler was a fantasy league-winner in 2021 as the RB2 in all formats. The Raiders had a hard time slowing down opposing running backs last season, but even if their run defense steps up, Ekeler will be highly involved in the Chargers' electric passing attack led by quarterback Justin Herbert. There should be an abundance of scoring in this one, and Ekeler is a locked-in RB1 in your fantasy lineups.--Jorden Hill - RotoBallerSource: RotoWire
Share:
2 months agoLos Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler handled a career-high in touches during the 2021 season, however, the dual-threat back doesn't expect his workload to change much as he enters his sixth season. "As far as my load, maybe it can be altered a little bit, but I don't think it will go down." Ekeler handled the most carries of his career with 206 last season while adding 70 receptions on 94 targets. With rookie Isaiah Spiller added to the mix, there is the chance we could see the rookie handle more of the load as a ball-carrier, while Ekeler sees similar usage to his 2019 season, when he handled just 132 carries and caught 92 passes. Regardless of how he will be used, the 27-year-old should be picked in the first round of fantasy drafts.--Tommy Adamopoulos - RotoBallerSource: Nick Cothrel

9 months agoLos Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler returned from a one-game absence in Week 17 versus the Denver Broncos and didn't miss a beat in the team's victory. Ekeler saw 17 carries on the afternoon and picked up 58 yards on the ground with a touchdown. He also caught all three of his targets for 54 yards. Ekeler remained effective all afternoon and remains one of the best assets in the game this season. Last week's waiver wire hero, Justin Jackson saw 12 carries on the afternoon for 41 yards, but the backfield remains Ekeler's as long as he is healthy. One of the best all-around players in the game, Ekeler will remain a RB1 in a tasty matchup versus the Las Vegas in Week 18.--Daniel Burdeen - RotoBallerSource: NFL.com

9 months agoLos Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler was activated from the Reserve/COVID-19 list after missing Week 16, but will return to action against the Denver Broncos in Week 17. Backup running back Justin Jackson feasted in Ekeler's absence, but Ekeler should resume his full-time role against a tough Broncos defense. For the season, the Broncos are allowing 93 yards per game on the ground and four receptions for 38 yards in the air. When the teams met in Week 12, Ekeler was held to just 31 yards on 12 carries, but he was able to secure six receptions for 68 yards and a touchdown. With Jackson's strong performance in Week 16 and Ekeler coming off of a missed week, it's possible his workload is a little less than normal, but managers should still start him with confidence as a RB1.--Daniel Burdeen - RotoBallerSource: CBS Sports
Share:
9 months agoLos Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler has been removed from the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Monday. Ekeler officially went on the COVID list last Wednesday and wasn't able to play in the team's surprising Week 16 loss to the Houston Texans. Justin Jackson filled in nicely as a fantasy and real-life replacement, though, carrying 11 times for 64 yards and two touchdowns while adding eight receptions on nine targets for 98 yards through the air. As long as he's feeling up to it, Ekeler should return to lead-back duties in Week 17 against the Denver Broncos, although Jackson has earned some more run with his performance the last two weeks. Ekeler has more appeal in PPR leagues because of his pass-catching prowess, but he's been a top-five fantasy back in all formats, so he should be returned to all starting lineups this week.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: NFL Network - Taylor Bisciotti
Share:
9 months agoLos Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler tested positive again for COVID-19 on Saturday, officially ruling him out for Sunday's matchup against the Texans. The absence from Ekeler will mark his first of the season, with the trio of Justin Jackson, Joshua Kelley, and Larry Rountree III set to fill in out of the backfield. Ekeler has emerged as one of the premier fantasy assets in the league, having set a new career high with 10 rushing scores this season, in addition to his seven receiving touchdowns. The Chargers' offense will enjoy a terrific matchup Sunday, facing a Houston squad that has allowed an average of 26.6 points per game this season. The star running back anticipates being back in the mix to face the Broncos in Week 17.--Jesse BorekSource: James Palmer
Share:
9 months agoLos Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler was placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Wednesday, and that will make his status iffy going into a Week 16 matchup versus the Houston Texans. It comes at a bad time with the fantasy playoffs underway and the Texans presenting a tasty matchup for the star running back. If Ekeler were to suit up for Sunday's tilt, he would go up against a Texans defense that allows 125 yards per game on the ground, but just four receptions for 25 yards per game to RBs. Fantasy managers couldn't have asked for a more appetizing matchup for Ekeler during the playoffs, but there is a serious chance he could be absent. If Ekeler were to miss Sunday's contest, veteran Justin Jackson would likely see the bulk of the work in the backfield, with Joshua Kelley also getting in the mix.--Daniel Burdeen - RotoBallerSource: CBS Sports
Share:
9 months agoLos Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler was placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Wednesday. There was speculation that Ekeler was going on the COVID list on Monday, but it didn't become official until Wednesday. If he is asymptomatic and returns a negative test before Sunday he can play against the Houston Texans, but fantasy managers need to run to the waiver wire and grab Justin Jackson as quickly as they can. Ekeler has been the second-most valuable fantasy RB behind only Jonathan Taylor this year, so fantasy managers would really be getting screwed in the playoffs if Ekeler cannot clear the COVID protocols. Jackson, who looked great alongside Ekeler last Thursday, would have RB1 upside if Ekeler is inactive and he sees the majority of the backfield touches against one of the worst overall defenses in the NFL.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: ESPN.com - Field Yates
Share:
9 months agoIt was announced on Monday that the Los Angeles Chargers put running back Austin Ekeler on the COVID-19 list, but it turns out that he wasn't one of the many Chargers players that officially went on the COVID-19 list. There's a chance that Ekeler could pop up on the list at some point this week, but for now, it's great news for his fantasy managers. The 26-year-old do-it-all back didn't have his normal workload last Thursday against the Chiefs after tweaking his ankle the week prior, but Ekeler still managed 12 carries for 59 yards and a touchdown and caught all four of his targets for 23 additional yards in Week 15. Justin Jackson, who had a team-high 13 carries for 86 yards last week, should be added off the waiver wire this week as Ekeler insurance. If Ekeler is good to go for Week 16 in a mouthwatering matchup against the Houston Texans, he'll be an elite RB1.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport
Share:
9 months agoThe Los Angeles Chargers are placing running back Austin Ekeler on the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Monday. Along with Ekeler, pass-rusher Joey Bosa and center Corey Linsley were put on the list. Ekeler was questionable to play last Thursday with an ankle injury, but he suited up and had a smaller workload in the overtime loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. With the NFL's updated COVID protocols, Ekeler has a better chance of gaining clearance to play on Sunday against the Houston Texans, but fantasy managers will need to formulate backup plans. Justin Jackson, who had a team-high 13 carries for 86 yards with Ekeler limited in Week 15, will be the priority waiver-wire addition this week in case Ekeler can't play next weekend.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: NFL Network - Taylor Bisciotti
