Dylan Floro Earns Sixth Save
4 hours agoMiami Marlins relief pitcher Dylan Floro worked a scoreless ninth inning to earn his sixth save in a 7-5 win over the Oakland Athletics. Floro didn't allow a baserunner and struck out a pair. This was much needed for the 32-year-old, as he has had some rough outings lately and is in jeopardy of losing his closing role to A.J. Puk when he returns from the IL, which could be any day. This performance may not save him from that fate, but it gives the Marlins something to think about at least. That said, Puk should be added by any Floro owners in leagues where the former is still available.Source: MLB.com
Evan Phillips Takes Loss Sunday
5 hours agoLos Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Evan Phillips took his first loss of the season on Sunday, allowing the game-winning run to score in a 4-1 loss to the New York Yankees. Phillips was tasked with pitching the eighth inning of a tie game in this one, but couldn't keep the Yanks at bay, allowing a walk and a double. The righty now has a still sparkling 1.99 ERA, 0.84 WHIP, and 26 strikeouts over 22 â…” IP. Interestingly, Phillips hasn't gotten a save since May 12, even though he had four in seven days prior to that. The Dodgers aren't afraid to use him early in games when they feel the situation calls for it. Still, Phillips appears to be their most trusted reliever and should be owned in any league where saves matter.Source: MLB.com
Wandy Peralta Notches Rare Save
5 hours agoNew York Yankees left-handed pitcher Wandy Peralta got the final four outs of the team's 4-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers, securing his fourth save of the season. Peralta allowed just one baserunner, a walk, and had no strikeouts. It was a nice bounce-back for Peralta, as he had just allowed two runs the day prior without recording an out. The save was the lefty's first since April 16, and it's hard to say if he is likely to get more opportunities given the way the Yankees use their bullpen. He should see some chances, but they certainly have other options they aren't afraid to go to. In deeper leagues Peralta should be rostered for the chance he gets a few saves, but outside of that and saves plus holds leagues, he can be left to waivers.Source: MLB.com
Miguel Castro Blows Save, Takes Loss Sunday
5 hours agoArizona Diamondbacks right-handed pitcher Miguel Castro had a tough outing Sunday, allowing four runs while taking the blown save and the loss in an 8-5 defeat against the Atlanta Braves. Castro loaded the bases on a hit and two walks before Eddie Rosario took him deep for a grand slam. It is the first runs Castro has allowed since April 7, so we'll give him a pass on this one. He now has a 3.46 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and 23:10 K:BB ratio over 26 IP. He has converted six of his eight save chances and should continue to split opportunities with lefty Andrew Chafin depending on the lineup context of their opponent.Source: MLB.com
Liam Hendriks Earns First Win Of 2023
5 hours agoChicago White Sox relief pitcher Liam Hendriks chose a great time to pick up his first win of the season, as today was National Cancer Survivors Day. He threw a perfect ninth inning with two punchouts to help the ChiSox pick up a 6-2 win over the Detroit Tigers. It appears the White Sox are ready to let Hendriks see high-leverage situations, meaning he likely isn't far out from taking over the closer role that he has held for multiple years prior to this one. Even if he isn't on your fantasy team, it'll be impossible to not cheer for Hendriks' success.Source: MLB.com
Andres Munoz Could Return Tuesday
5 hours agoSeattle Mariners relief pitcher Andres Munoz (shoulder) is likely to return to the team on Tuesday following a rehab stint in Triple-A Tacoma. Munoz has been out since April 7 while dealing with shoulder tightness and has experienced some setbacks along the way. He seems to be feeling good now, though, and has looked solid on his rehab assignment, throwing three scoreless frames. When he returns, he is likely to be used in high-leverage situations, but Paul Sewald has looked very good in the closer role this season and is unlikely to be usurped. He should still be rostered in most leagues, as he will provide good ratios and strikeouts while getting the occasional save.Source: Ryan Divish
Nathan Eovaldi On A Warpath, Spins Scoreless One-Hitter
10 hours agoTexas Rangers starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi twirled another scoreless gem on Sunday. The right-hander was scratched by just one hit over six innings with seven strikeouts en route to his eighth win of the year as the team sunk the Seattle Mariners 12-3. The 33-year-old is firing on all cylinders right now and added to what has become perhaps baseball's most dazzling pitching journey of 2023 thus far. Eovaldi has notched five scoreless starts of at least five innings including two shutouts since his warpath began on April 29. The former All-Star is undefeated over his last seven appearances (6-0) with an immaculate 0.68 ERA across 52 2/3 innings during this stretch. Eovaldi's reign of terror will face its mightiest foe yet on Saturday versus Shane McClanahan and the Tampa Bay Rays for a clash of the titans.Source: MLB.com
Jake Burger Blasts Game-Winning Grand Slam
10 hours agoChicago White Sox third baseman Jake Burger came up clutch for the team during Sunday's game against the Detroit Tigers. His first hit of the ballgame was a game-winning grand slam in the final frame. It marked his 12th home run of the season in 37 contests. The 27-year-old has seen his playing time dip recently as he didn't start in the previous three games leading up to Sunday. Gavin Sheets has been seeing more action lately, but Burger is doing a little better with the bat right now. Burger won't be a reliable fantasy option going forward unless he can secure an everyday spot in the lineup.Source: MLB.com
Triston McKenzie Looks Outstanding In Season Debut
11 hours agoCleveland Guardians starting pitcher Triston McKenzie took the mound for the season debut against the Minnesota Twins on Sunday. The right-hander had been sidelined all season up to this point due to a lingering shoulder issue. He didn't look rusty at all during this game. McKenzie threw five scoreless innings, allowing one hit, and striking out 10 batters in the 2-1 win. It was his first start of the season, so the Guardians limited him to a 79-pitch outing, but that should increase as time goes on. The 25-year-old had a breakout season in 2022 and appears locked in once again.Source: MLB.com
Nestor Cortes Likely Headed To Injured List
11 hours agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Nestor Cortes (shoulder) is likely headed to the injured list, according to manager Aaron Boone. The left-hander has experienced trouble with his recovery in-between starts. The Yankees have already pushed back his next scheduled start on Wednesday. The organization will have Cortes undergo an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of the issue. The team is hopeful he'll only miss a start or two, but more information should be known soon. Fantasy managers should have a backup plan ready in case Cortes goes to the injured list.Source: Bryan Hoch
Aaron Judge Held Out On Sunday
11 hours agoNew York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge (toe) is being held out of the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The right-handed slugger suffered a minor toe injury during Saturday's contest. As a result, the Yankees are going to have Judge sit out this contest. Manager Aaron Boone said Judge is sore and getting treatment, so he's unsure if Judge is going to be available off the bench during this game. The Yankees have a scheduled off day on Monday, so hopefully Judge is ready to play again on Tuesday. In the meantime, Willie Calhoun, Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Jake Bauers will cover the outfield versus right-hander Bobby Miller on Sunday.Source: Gary Phillips
Royce Lewis Removed From Sunday's Game
11 hours agoMinnesota Twins shortstop Royce Lewis was removed early during Sunday's game against the Cleveland Guardians. The 23-year-old was taken out of the game after getting into a collision while covering first base. Manager Rocco Baldelli said Lewis did not sustain a concussion or any acute concerns. It sounds like Lewis is dealing with a day-to-day issue that might sideline him for a few games. However, it seems unlikely that he'll require a stint on the injured list.Source: Do-Hyoung Park
Henry Davis Promoted To Triple-A
11 hours agoPittsburgh Pirates catcher Henry Davis has earned himself a promotion to Triple-A Indianapolis. Davis was drafted by Pittsburgh as the first overall pick during the 2019 Amateur Draft. He currently ranks as the No. 45 best prospect, according to MLB Pipeline. This season, Davis is slashing .284/.433/.547 with 10 homers and 27 RBI across 41 games in Double-A. It appears his bat is ready for the next level, so we'll see what he can do in Triple-A. Honestly, it wouldn't be shocking to see Davis hit his way onto the Pirates roster this season. He's certainly worth stashing in dynasty formats right now.Source: MLB Pipeline
Tyler Soderstrom Launches Pair Of Home Runs
13 hours agoOakland Athletics' top prospect Tyler Soderstrom posted his second multi-home run game of the season. The 21-year-old is now slashing .255/.304/.532 with 12 home runs through 46 games with Triple-A Las Vegas. Soderstrom's hitting ability is advanced for his age, and he figures to be a candidate for promotion to the majors at some point in 2023. Whether the Athletics will utilize him as a catcher or first baseman remains to be seen, but Soderstrom's positional flexibility will help expedite his road to the big leagues. Soderstrom should already be stashed in deeper fantasy formats.Source: MLB Pipeline
Jose Alvarado Could Be Back Next Weekend
14 hours agoPhiladelphia Phillies reliever Jose Alvarado (elbow) could return for next weekend's home series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The left-hander had five saves and four holds before going down with elbow inflammation on May 8. He's been spending time with Triple-A Lehigh Valley and is expected to make one more appearance in the minors. If things go well, he'll be back, which is good news for the fantasy managers who've had him stashed on the injured list.Source: Corey Seidman
