1 hour agoPhiladelphia Phillies starter Aaron Nola allowed two runs on four hits across eight innings of work during Sunday's 8-2 win over the Chicago White Sox. He struck out seven batters while walking one. It was an impressive outing for the 30-year-old as the only damage against him came off of an Eloy Jimenez blast in the first inning. Nola has now allowed two runs or fewer in four straight appearances after a shaky outing to kick off the campaign. He brings a 3-1 record, 3.16 ERA and 26/10 K/BB into his next projected start against the San Diego Padres. Nola is a must-start fantasy option while he is rolling like this.--Raymond Harrison - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
1 hour agoPhiladelphia Phillies designated hitter Kyle Schwarber went 1-for-1 with a home run, two RBI, three runs scored, and three walks during Sunday's 8-2 win over the Chicago White Sox. It was an impressive day at the plate for the Phillies and Schwarber was no exception. The 31-year-old is now slashing .217/.327/.434 with six homers, 11 RBI and one stolen base through 22 games. At this point, fantasy managers know what Schwarber brings to the table. He strikes out a ton and will hurt your ratios, but he can homer in bunches and will deliver solid counting stats across the board. A series at the hitter-friendly confines of Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati is up next.--Raymond Harrison - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
1 hour agoWashington Nationals second baseman Luis Garcia Jr. went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a stolen base during Sunday's 6-0 win over the Houston Astros. Garcia is now slashing .317/.348/.476 with one home run, 10 RBI and five stolen bases through 19 games. The 23-year-old has struggled with consistency thus far in his career, but he has looked composed at the plate to start 2024. Fantasy managers in deeper leagues could look to Garcia as a sneaky source of steals as he should continue to serve as the everyday second baseman in Washington.--Raymond Harrison - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
2 hours agoWashington Nationals left-hander Mitchell Parker surrendered three hits across seven scoreless innings during Sunday's 6-0 win over the Houston Astros. Parker struck out eight batters without issuing a walk. Parker is the 21st-ranked prospect in the Nationals system and has looked great thus far in 2024. He now owns a 2-0 record to go along with a 1.50 ERA and 0.58 WHIP. Most impressively, the 24-year-old has not issued a walk in his two major-league starts. He may not continue this level of success, but he looks like he will stick in the Nationals rotation for the time being. Parker makes for an interesting streaming option in his next projected start against the Miami Marlins.--Raymond Harrison - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
3 hours agoNew York Mets catcher Tomas Nido is slated to make his first start of the 2024 season as the New York Mets look to complete a three-game sweep against the Los Angeles Dodgers and continue their six-game win streak. Nido was promoted from Triple-A Syracuse yesterday when Francisco Alvarez (thumb) was placed on the injured list. Nido struggled at the plate last season as he hit for a .125/.153/.125 stat line across 61 plate appearances. The 30-year-old should be expected to serve as the backup catcher in Queens behind Omar Narvaez for the foreseeable future. Nido will have trouble finding a path to fantasy relevance in a limited role and due to his past struggles in the batter's box. He is best left as a desperation option in DFS but has a difficult matchup today as he will face Tyler Glasnow.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
3 hours agoLos Angeles Dodgers outfielder Andy Pages is making his fifth consecutive start on Sunday as the Dodgers hope to avoid a three-game sweep of the New York Mets. Pages was promoted to the major league roster prior to Tuesday's game and has started in every game since. The number three prospect in the Dodgers system has posted a .143/.250/.214 line across his small taste of the big leagues but was riding a .371/.452/.694 line across Triple-A to begin the season. It has been very promising to see Pages in the lineup every day since his callup, signaling to fantasy managers that the Dodgers value his bat and is worth adding if still available on your waiver wire. Pages could be a sneaky play in DFS as he will face Adrian Houser, who is entering Sunday with a 4.70 ERA.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
3 hours agoCincinnati Reds starting pitcher Frankie Montas (undisclosed) left Sunday's game early after being hit by a comebacker off outfielder Taylor Ward. The ball struck Montas in his pitching arm, which was why he had to leave the game. Brent Suter replaced Montas as a result. There have not been any updates on the extent of the injury, so fantasy managers will have to keep a close eye on his status before his next scheduled start. Montas was off to a great start with his new team, as he did not allow an earned run until his third start. Since then, Montas has allowed nine earned runs. Brent Suter is an option to replace Montas in the rotation if he were to have an extended absence.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: Mike Petraglia
3 hours agoSeattle Mariners relief pitcher Matt Brash (elbow) is nearing a rehab assignment, according to Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times. Brash has been shut down since Spring Training due to elbow inflammation but has recently thrown a bullpen session and is now quickly approaching the final step in his recovery process. The 25-year-old was an elite set-up man for Seattle last season as he posted a 3.06 ERA and 1.33 WHIP with 107 punchouts across 70 â…” innings. Brash finished the season with 24 holds, which tied him for 11th best in the major leagues. Brash is worth looking into in leagues that score holds, as he will be given ample opportunities and should also improve your team's pitching ratios.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: Ryan Divish
3 hours agoSeattle Mariners starting pitcher Bryan Woo (elbow) is slated to begin his rehab assignment with the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers on Sunday, according to Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times. Woo was diagnosed with elbow inflammation during Spring Training and has been on the IL since the start of the season. The 24-year-old made his major league debut last summer and pitched to the tune of a 4.21 ERA and 1.21 WHIP across 87 â…” innings and tallied 93 punchouts. The right-handed pitcher placed in the 83rd percentile among qualified pitchers in hard-hit rate and 77th percentile in barrel rate, showing how he succeeded in limited hard contact. Woo should be expected to slot in the Mariners rotation as soon as he joins the major league club and is worth adding if on your waiver wire.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: Ryan Divish
4 hours agoArizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Merrill Kelly (undisclosed) has been scratched from his scheduled start on Sunday in the final game of a four-game set against their division rival San Francisco Giants. Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reported the news, but there has not been any clarity on why the 35-year-old will not be on the bump, so fantasy managers should pay close attention over the next few days. Kelly was off to another strong season, sporting a 2.19 ERA and 0.93 WHIP across 24 â…” innings. Slade Cecconi is slated to serve as the Arizona starter and has yet to take the mound this season.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: Nick Piecoro
4 hours agoMinnesota Twins reliever Jhoan Duran (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment on Tuesday at Triple-A St. Paul. The fireballer recently threw a live batting practice without any discomfort and will now begin the next step in his recovery. Duran will likely be able to return to the majors within the next couple weeks, assuming there are no setbacks. The 26-year-old should be rostered in all fantasy formats as he offers high-end upside as a closer. He may not resume his ninth-inning duties right away for the Twins, but there is no doubt that he will return to closing at some point in the near future.--Raymond Harrison - RotoBallerSource: Betsy Helfand
4 hours agoMilwaukee Brewers left-hander DL Hall (knee) was placed on the 15-day injured list with a left knee sprain on Sunday afternoon. Hall reportedly suffered the injury while fielding a bunt against the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday. The 25-year-old came into the season with some hype after pitching well as a reliever in 2023. Unfortunately, the results have not been good for the former top prospect as he owns a 7.71 ERA, 2.27 WHIP and 13/10 K/BB through four starts this season. It is currently unclear how the Brewers plan to fill Hall's spot rotation, but Bryse Wilson and Robert Gasser are both in consideration.--Raymond Harrison - RotoBallerSource: Todd Rosiak
4 hours agoLos Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (hamstring) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Sunday afternoon. The veteran infielder exited Saturday's game early after straining his hamstring while running out a single. It is unfortunate timing for the 33-year-old as he was just rediscovering his consistency at the plate. Ehire Adrianza was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake as a corresponding move, but it is more likely that Luis Rengifo and Miguel Sano see the majority of playing time at the hot corner. Rengifo is worth an add in any deeper leagues where he is available due to his multi-position eligibility and stolen base upside.--Raymond Harrison - RotoBallerSource: Angels PR
4 hours agoChicago Cubs outfielder Ian Happ (hamstring) is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Miami Marlins. Happ was removed from Friday's game in the seventh inning due to left hamstring tightness. He also did not play on Saturday. Happ is reportedly available to pinch hit today if necessary and is hopeful he will return soon. Fantasy managers can consider Happ day-to-day for now and should check to see if he draws back into the lineup for Tuesday's series opener against the Houston Astros. In his absence, Alexander Canario will start in left field and bat ninth on Sunday. Canario is not a recommended option in any fantasy format.--Raymond Harrison - RotoBallerSource: Tony Andracki
4 hours agoCincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley (illness) is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Angels. Reds second baseman Jonathan India is also sick and out of the lineup. Both players should be considered day-to-day while they recover. Nick Martini will start in right field and bat cleanup in Fraley's absence while Santiago Espinal starts at second base and bats eighth. Martini offers modest DFS appeal for Sunday's slate due to his lineup placement and 13 RBI so far this season.--Raymond Harrison - RotoBallerSource: Mark Sheldon
