4 hours agoArizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll helped his team secure a commanding 11-6 victory over the Tigers in the Motor City Friday. The talented 22-year-old crushed two home runs, a double, and drove in five runs. In the opening inning, Carroll wasted no time as he smashed the first pitch thrown by Michael Lorenzen for a solo blast. Later in the game, he launched a grand slam off of Will Vest in the seventh inning. Carroll went a 3-for-5 in the contest. He's slashing .307/.391/.575 with 13 dingers, 32 RBI, and 18 stolen bases.--Andrew Lennox - RotoBallerSource: James Schapiro

4 hours agoArizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Merrill Kelly earned his eighth victory of the season. Facing the Tigers, the 34-year-old hurler limited them to three runs on seven hits during his 6 1/3 innings of work. Kelly struck out five batters throughout the game while issuing only two walks. He hurled 92 pitchers in the outing, and his next start will come Wednesday against the Phillies. Kelly boasts a solid 2.92 ERA, a solid 1.10 WHIP, and an impressive 82/30 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 77 innings of work. Fantasy managers who have him rostered should look to Kelly to be a key contributor to their lineup all season long.--Andrew Lennox - RotoBallerSource: James Schapiro

4 hours agoIn Friday's game, Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow was dominant on the mound, holding the Rangers to just one run and one hit over six innings to pick up his first win. The lone blemish came from a home run hit by Leody Taveras. Glasnow faced little other adversity throughout the game despite several pitch-timer violations. He impressed with his fastball, consistently averaging 96.8 mph. Additionally, he recorded six strikeouts, further highlighting his exceptional outing.--Andrew Lennox - RotoBallerSource: Adam Berry

5 hours agoDetroit Tigers outfielder Akil Baddoo had to leave the game due to an evident leg injury in a Friday loss to Arizona. Baddoo seemed to have strained his quad while exerting himself to reach first base after grounding out, which marked the end of the fourth inning. As a result, Andy Ibanez stepped in as his defensive replacement at the beginning of the fifth inning. The 24-year-old will undergo an additional assessment to determine the extent of the injury, and the Tigers are expected to release an update on his condition soon. In 143 at-bats, Baddoo carries a batting average of .231 with three home runs and 16 RBI.--Andrew Lennox - RotoBallerSource: Chris McCosky

5 hours agoTexas Rangers outfielder Leody Taveras belted two solo home runs and drew a walk in an 8-3 loss to Tampa Bay Friday. The Rangers' offense struggled overall, managing only three hits throughout the game, all of which were home runs. Josh Jung contributed the other homer. Taveras now has five dingers, three coming in the past week. However, regarding stolen bases, he has been stagnant since May 16, with only five swiped bags. Nevertheless, despite the lack of stolen bases, Taveras continues to provide value to the team, especially with a .304 batting average in 168 plate appearances.--Andrew Lennox - RotoBallerSource: Adam Berry

5 hours agoThe Chicago Cubs recalled infielder Nick Madrigal from Triple-A Iowa on Friday and optioned infielder Miles Mastrobuoni to Iowa in a corresponding move. In his return to the big leagues, the Cubs gave Madrigal the start at second base while putting him in the leadoff spot on Friday against the San Francisco Giants. The 26-year-old tore up Triple-A pitching to the tune of a .488 average in 41 at-bats, but he was hitting a lackluster .247 (23-for-93) with three doubles, a triple, no home runs, nine RBI and 13 runs scored in 34 games. Fantasy managers in mixed leagues should still leave Madrigal to the waiver wire. He's unlikely to be a lineup regular, and he has only two home runs and eight stolen bases in 176 career big-league games.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Cubs Twitter

5 hours agoSt. Louis Cardinals outfielder Lars Nootbaar (back) is still experiencing discomfort and is limited in his baseball activity, according to manager Oliver Marmol. Nootbaar is a ways away from a minor-league rehab assignment. It sounds as though Tommy Edman will continue to see the majority of repetitions in center field, even with Dylan Carlson returning from the injured list on Friday. The 25-year-old has been out since late last month and was eligible to return from the 10-day IL on Friday, but he's obviously going to need more time. Nootbaar was hitting .266 (41-for-154) with an excellent .380 on-base percentage, seven doubles, four homers, 21 RBI, five stolen bases and 25 runs in 184 plate appearances over 42 games.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: The Athletic - Katie Woo

6 hours agoKansas City Royals first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino (shoulder) left the game early on Friday night against the Baltimore Orioles with right-shoulder discomfort. Fantasy managers will want to check back after the Royals update the 25-year-old's status either after Friday's game or early on Saturday. Consider him to be day-to-day until further notice. Before leaving, Pasquantino went 0-for-3 to drop his season average to .247. He was replaced at first base by Matt Duffy. The power-hitting left-handed hitter entered Friday's contest hitting .250 (57-for-228) with 17 doubles, nine home runs, 26 RBI and 24 runs in 60 games in his second MLB season. He's really struggled early on in June, with just one hit so far in 21 at-bats.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com - Anne Rogers

6 hours agoLos Angeles Angels outfielder Hunter Renfroe is expected to come off the paternity list on Saturday. Renfroe's stint on the list was short-lived, as expected, so he'll likely be back in the lineup on Saturday against the Seattle Mariners. The 31-year-old has hit .252 with 32 runs, 57 hits, 30 RBI, and 11 home runs this season. He's also gone 5-for-16 in June, so fantasy managers are hoping he'll pick right up where he left off.--Dennis Clausen - RotoBallerSource: Rhett Bollinger
Share:
6 hours agoBoston Red Sox infielder Yu Chang (wrist) is anticipated to be activated from the 10-day injured list on Monday. The 27-year-old has been out since the end of April with a left wrist injury and had suffered a setback during rehab. That said, Chang has hit only .136 with eight RBI and three homers in 2023, so there aren't many fantasy managers anxiously awaiting his return.--Dennis Clausen - RotoBallerSource: Pete Abraham
Share:
6 hours agoPhiladelphia Phillies infielder Alec Bohm (hamstring) won't return on Saturday as initially expected. According to skipper Rob Thomson, the 26-year-old experienced soreness in his left hamstring, although the team doesn't consider this a setback. Bohm has played relatively well in 2023, amassing 23 runs, 52 hits, and six home runs in 196 at-bats. The latest update is certainly discouraging for fantasy managers. However, it seems there's still a chance Bohm will be back soon, hopefully sometime within the next few days.--Dennis Clausen - RotoBallerSource: Matt Gelb

7 hours agoAtlanta Braves starting pitcher Max Fried (forearm) is progressing. According to manager Brian Snitker, the left-hander's flat-ground sessions have gone well, although he's still not ready to begin throwing off the mound. Fried amassed a 2-1 record with a 2.08 ERA and 25 strikeouts in five starts in 2023. However, he suffered a forearm strain in early May and has been on the shelf ever since. But there may be light at the end of the tunnel, so fantasy managers should keep their fingers crossed and hope Fried is back sooner rather than later.--Dennis Clausen - RotoBallerSource: David O'Brien
Share:
7 hours agoChicago White Sox outfielder/designated hitter Eloy Jimenez (leg) will miss multiple games. The 26-year-old exited the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against the New York Yankees after experiencing discomfort "right below" his left calf. Skipper Pedro Grifol reported Jimenez underwent a "pretty good exam." However, a trip to the injured list could be on the horizon, although the team is obviously hoping to avoid going in that direction. Jimenez has already spent time on the IL this season, so another stint isn't ideal for fantasy managers. That said, he should remain stashed, even if he's looking at a lengthy absence.--Dennis Clausen - RotoBallerSource: Rob Schaefer
Share:
7 hours agoSan Francisco Giants third baseman J.D. Davis (hip) is out of the lineup for Friday's meeting with the Cubs. The 30-year-old is battling right hip tightness. Considering he's hit .364 in 22 at-bats in June, the Giants are hoping he won't miss extended time moving ahead. Fantasy managers should consider Davis day-to-day. But in the meantime, Casey Schmitt will take over at third and face Marcus Stroman for the first time in his career.--Dennis Clausen - RotoBallerSource: Danny Emerman

8 hours agoThe Detroit Tigers claimed outfielder Nick Solak off waivers from the Atlanta Braves on Friday and optioned him to Triple-A Toledo. In a corresponding move to make room for Solak on the 40-man roster, the team moved right-hander Spencer Turnbull (neck) to the 60-day injured list. Solak heads to the Tigers after being designated for assignment by Atlanta earlier this week. The 28-year-old only played in one game for the Braves this year and didn't have an official plate appearance. In 38 contests for Triple-A Gwinnett, he hit .272 (41-for-151) with eight doubles, six home runs, 28 RBI and 23 runs scored. Solak is a career .252 hitter in five big-league seasons with 21 homers, 93 RBI and 19 stolen bases. He'll have a better shot at playing in the majors in Detroit, but he's still off the fantasy radar.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Tigers PR
