1 hour agoMilwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames went 4-for-4 with a homer and four RBI in Milwaukee's win over Washington on Sunday. The 28-year-old is red-hot in July with a .353 batting average, two homers, and 13 RBI this month. The power-hitting shortstop has 15 homers and 67 RBI this season while hitting .246. He is as good as it gets as a run producer at the shortstop position.--Brian Buckey - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
1 hour agoChicago Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong was 2-for-3 with two solo homers and a stolen base in the Cubs' win over the Cardinals on Sunday. It was an unexpected power surge for the 22-year-old who now has three homers on the season. Crow-Armstrong is hitting .203 but does have 17 steals on the season. If he can bring up the average, he could be a fantasy contributor with the speed he has shown at the big-league level. The rookie will look to build on this performance in the second half.--Brian Buckey - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
1 hour agoTexas Rangers closer Kirby Yates picked up his 16th save of the season, giving up a run in the ninth inning but holding on to a three-run lead. The 37-year-old has been lights out for most of this season with a 1.05 ERA and 0.90 WHIP this season. The right-hander has been a big boon to fantasy managers who used an early waiver-wire claim for his services. He will look to continue his dominant run in the second half of the season.--Brian Buckey - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
1 hour agoTexas Rangers infielder Josh Smith was 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI as Texas beat Houston 4-2. The 26-year-old continued his surprising year with another big game as he brought his season totals to 10 homers and 40 RBI to go with a .293 batting average. Smith has come into an everyday role due to an injury to Josh Jung, but he may force his way into staying in the lineup even when Jung returns. The sweet-swinging lefty has rewarded fantasy managers in a big way so far this season.--Brian Buckey - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
2 hours agoOakland Athletics second baseman Zack Gelof was 1-for-5 with a grand slam in Oakland's rout of the Phillies. Gelof is now hitting .204 with 12 homers, 34 RBI, and 11 stolen bases. The batting average leaves something to be desired, but the 24-year-old has three homers, 11 RBI, and two steals already in July. He has shown the ability to hit for power and steal bases, but the batting average is a bit of a drain.--Brian Buckey - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
2 hours agoOakland Athletics designated hitter Brent Rooker was 2-for-2 with two homers and five RBI in the team's 18-3 win over the Phillies on Sunday. Rooker hit his 20th and 21st home run of the season and brought his RBI total to 62. The 29-year-old is in the middle of a breakout campaign, hitting .291 with a .942 OPS. Rooker has been one of the best draft-day values of the year so far.--Brian Buckey - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
2 hours agoTampa Bay Rays closer Pete Fairbanks secured his 17th save of the season in Sunday's 2-0 win over Cleveland. The right-hander gave up two hits before closing the door on the Rays' victories. He did not record a strikeout. Fairbanks has four saves this month with a 3.60 ERA and 1.40 WHIP. His season-long ERA sits at 3.21 with a 1.25 WHIP. Fairbanks has converted his last four save opportunities and will look for a strong second half of the season.--Brian Buckey - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
2 hours agoTampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Ryan Pepiot fired six scoreless innings, scattering two hits with four strikeouts and no walks against Cleveland on Sunday. Pepiot picked up his sixth win of the season as the Rays shut out the Guardians 2-0. The right-hander moved to 6-5 on the season with a 3.92 ERA and 1.08 WHIP with 94 strikeouts in 87 1/3 innings. He will look to carry momentum from this dominant start into the second half of the season after this week's All-Star break.--Brian Buckey - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
4 hours agoWashington Nationals relief pitcher Amos Willingham is being promoted to the major league roster. Willingham will claim the empty roster spot that was held by right-hander pitcher Hunter Harvey, who was traded to the Kansas City Royals on Saturday, July 13. Willingham made his major league debut last season and struggled with a 6.66 ERA, 1.81 WHIP, and a 9:15 BB:K ratio across 24 innings. At Triple-A Rochester this season, the Georgia Tech product posted a 4.54 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, and an 18:42 BB:K ratio across 39 â…” innings. However, across his past five appearances (six innings), the right-hander did not allow a run and held a 1.00 WHIP with a 4:8 BB:K ratio. Willingham will likely operate in a low-leverage role for the remainder of the season, while Dylan Floro and Robert Garcia are more likely to claim Harvey's former set-up role.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: Washington Nationals
4 hours agoMinnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa (heel) has been diagnosed with plantar fasciitis, according to Dan Hayes of The Athletic. Correa was a late scratch from Saturday's lineup and underwent an MRI shortly after. The 29-year-old had a similar injury in his opposite foot last season. Hayes also reported that this case is said to be not as severe as last time. Correa spent time on the injured list for this injury last season and could do the same again. The former first-overall selection has enjoyed a nice bounce-back season in 2024 with a strong .308/.377/.520 line and 13 home runs. If Correa were to miss an extended period of time, Brooks Lee and Willi Castro are strong candidates to fill in at shortstop.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: Dan Hayes
4 hours agoToronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Brandon Eisert was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday, July 14, according to Keegan Matheson of MLB.com. In a corresponding move, the Blue Jays optioned right-handed pitcher Bowden Francis to Triple-A. Eisert made one major league appearance earlier this season on June 17 and tossed two scoreless frames. He allowed one hit and three free passes. At Triple-A Buffalo, the Oregon State product posted a 5.17 ERA and 1.66 WHIP across 31 â…“ innings. The southpaw should continue to operate in a bullpen role in his second stint in the major leagues and could eventually be used in a bulk relief role, as he recorded over six outs in several outings in the minor leagues this season.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: Keegan Matheson
4 hours agoChicago Cubs relief pitcher Hunter Bigge is being optioned to Triple-A Iowa, according to Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic. Bigge made only three major league appearances in his brief first stint at the major league level. He logged two â…“ innings with a 3.86 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and a 2:3 BB:K ratio. At Triple-A this season, Bigge performed quite well with a 0.77 ERA, 0.69 WHIP, and a 6:19 BB:K ratio across 11 â…” frames. He also tallied six saves. The 26-year-old is a strong candidate to return to the major leagues later this season and could eventually earn a high-leverage role as he gains more experience.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: Sahadev Sharma
4 hours agoWashington Nationals second baseman Luis Garcia Jr. (undisclosed) was a late scratch from Sunday's starting lineup. Currently, Garica should be considered day-to-day with an undisclosed injury for now. As a result, 32-year-old Ildemaro Vargas will occupy the keystone this afternoon and bat in the seven-hole. Garcia went 2-for-2 with a home run yesterday, which extended his current hitting streak to five games. The 24-year-old is on pace to have the best season of his major league career with a strong .281/.313/.444 line, 11 home runs, 45 RBI, and 12 stolen bases. Fantasy managers should pay close to Garcia's status heading into the All-Star Break.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: Washington Nationals
4 hours agoSan Diego Padres catcher Kyle Higashioka is back in the starting lineup as the Padres will look to clinch a series victory over the Atlanta Braves on Sunday. Higashioka had the day off on Saturday but has begun to see the majority of the starts behind the dish in San Diego. The 34-year-old began to receive more opportunities while Luis Campusano was on the injured list with a thumb injury but remained the primary backstop since he returned. Since June 26, Higashioka has posted a strong .333/.394/.833 line with five long balls and 13 RBI. Campusano has only made two starts since returning from the injured list last week. While Higashioka may be swinging a hot bat, he should be faded in DFS this afternoon as he will face Atlanta southpaw Chris Sale, who has dominated in the first half of the season and is a front-runner to win the NL Cy Young.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
4 hours agoOakland Athletics starting pitcher Luis Medina (elbow) was recently placed on the 15-day injured list. This move came two days after Medina allowed six runs in an ugly outing against the Boston Red Sox. Manager Mark Kotsay said he expects Medina to miss significant time. This season, Medina holds a 5.18 ERA over eight starts, so he could use some time to rest and recover. In the meantime, Ross Stripling and Osvaldo Bido are both options to replace him in the starting rotation.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: BMV Sports
