5 days agoAtlanta Braves starting pitcher Jake Odorizzi had a start to forget on Friday night against the Philadelphia Phillies, as he surrendered eight earned runs on 10 hits (one homer) while walking three and striking out six in four innings in the 9-1 loss. It was his worst performance since being acquired from the Houston Astros at the trade deadline, and he's now gone 1-3 with a 5.97 ERA (5.31 FIP), a 1.62 WHIP, 33 strikeouts and 14 walks in 37 2/3 innings and eight starts with Atlanta. In three starts in September, Odorizzi has allowed 13 earned runs on 17 hits (two homers) while walking seven and striking out 14. Despite his disappointing performances with the Braves so far, the 32-year-old veteran right-hander should remain in the starting rotation the rest of the way.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

4 weeks agoThe Atlanta Braves have scratched right-hander Jake Odorizzi (arm) from his scheduled start on Saturday against the Miami Marlins with arm fatigue. Bryce Elder will toe the rubber in his place. Instead, Odorizzi will start next against the Mariners in Seattle. It's not a serious situation for the 32-year-old, but the Braves don't want to take any chances. In his five starts since being acquired from the Houston Astros, Odorizzi has gone 1-2 with a 4.26 ERA (5.65 FIP), 1.46 WHIP, 19 strikeouts and seven walks in 25 1/3 innings pitched. In 17 starts on the season as a whole, he's gone 5-5 with a 3.90 ERA (4.23 FIP), a 1.24 WHIP and a 65:24 K:BB in 85 1/3 innings. Elder, a rookie, is 1-3 with a 4.45 ERA (4.82 FIP), a 1.52 WHIP and 24 strikeouts in 28 1/3 innings over six outings (five starts) for Atlanta.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution - Justin Toscano

2 months agoAtlanta Braves starting pitcher Jake Odorizzi "had cramping in his hamstring and glute in his last inning, got fluids via IV afterward, [and is] feeling fine now," he told The Athletic's David O'Brien. Acquired from Houston at the trade deadline, Odorizzi surrendered two runs through 4.2 innings in his Braves debut. Through 12 starts with the Astros, he went 4-3 with a 3.61 FIP, 6.90 K/9, and 2.55 BB/9. His established role and veteran presence give him fantasy allure in many leagues.--Andersen Pickard - RotoBallerSource: David O'Brien

2 months agoAtlanta Braves starting pitcher Jake Odorizzi is expected to make his team debut on Saturday. He was acquired by the Braves from the Houston Astros on Monday. The 32-year-old has registered a 3.75 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 46/17 K/BB ratio through 12 starts this season. He should be a fine addition to the Braves rotation down the stretch of the season. It's uncertain which game of the doubleheader that Odorizzi will pitch. Regardless, fantasy managers should expect Odorizzi to continues pitching well as part of the Braves.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: Justin Toscano

2 months agoThe Atlanta Braves acquired starting pitcher Jake Odorizzi from the Houston Astros in exchange for relief pitcher Will Smith Monday, per Fox 26's Mark Berman. The Braves also traded for outfielder Robbie Grossman in a separate move. Odorizzi missed some time earlier in the season with left leg discomfort but he has produced a respectable 3.75 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and 18.8% strikeout rate over 12 starts. Even better for the Braves, the veteran has only logged 60 innings so far this season, so he should be able to eat a chunk of innings for the rest of the regular season and allow some of the Braves' younger arms to rest a bit. Odorizzi is moving from one strong team to another, so his fantasy value won't be all that affected. He remains a streaming option in favorable matchups in deeper leagues at this time.--Connelly Doan - RotoBallerSource: Mark Berman - Twitter.com

2 months agoHouston Astros starting pitcher Jake Odorizzi was at his best Sunday, throwing seven scoreless innings against the Seattle Mariners, though he was not able to earn the win after reliever Ryne Stanek gave up the lead in the eighth inning. Odorizzi allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out eight batters. He has a 4-3 record with a 3.75 ERA and 1.15 WHIP with 46 strikeouts in 60 innings over 12 starts this season. Odorizzi's name has come up in trade rumors despite his success, and his fantasy value could take a hit, depending on his destination if he is moved.--Doug Goldring - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

2 months agoHouston Astros right-hander Jake Odorizzi (finger) was removed from Monday's start against the Oakland Athletics after a blister developed on one of the fingers of his right hand. The 32-year-old spoke to the press after the game and stated that it was the type of ailment he'd pitched through in the past. He tried to pitch through it again on Monday, but the team wound up electing to remove him from the game instead. It was an ugly day for the veteran as he went five innings and allowed seven hits, one walk and six earned runs while striking out two. The Astros are going with a six-man rotation right now and Odorizzi seems like the most logical pitcher to cut from the rotation if the team chooses to go back down to five starters. As of now, he's slated to make his next start this coming Sunday against the Seattle Mariners.--Andrew Ericksen - RotoBallerSource: AT&T SportsNet

3 months agoHouston Astros starting pitcher Jake Odorizzi (leg) is set to make his return to the mound on Monday against the Kansas City Royals. The right-hander has been sidelined since mid-May due to a left leg tendon strain. He was able to make it through a pair of rehab starts without any issues. That being said, the Astros plan on bringing back Odorizzi to the starting rotation for Monday's contest. He posted a 3.13 ERA over 31 2/3 innings in seven starts before landing on the injured list. Odorizzi could be a possible streaming option against the shaky Royals' offense.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: Brian McTaggart
Share:
3 months agoHouston Astros manager Dusty Baker hinted that the team could go to a six-man starting rotation when right-hander Jake Odorizzi (leg) returns from the injured list. Odorizzi has been out since mid-May with sprains in his foot and ankle, and Cristian Javier has been excellent for Houston while taking Odorizzi's rotation spot. Odorizzi will return to a 3-2 record, 3.13 ERA and 1.17 WHIP with 21 strikeouts in 31 2/3 innings over seven starts when he's activated. The 32-year-old struck out six in five scoreless innings in his second minor league rehab start for Double-A Corpus Christi on Wednesday, so he could make his return to Houston's rotation early next week against the Kansas City Royals. Odorizzi's 16.4% strikeout rate leaves a lot to be desired, but he continues to induce a lot of weak contact.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Sports Radio 610 - Adam Spolane

3 months agoHouston Astros starting pitcher Jake Odorizzi (leg) made his first rehab start at Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday. He pitched three innings and allowed two hits, two walks and two earned runs while striking out four. The 32-year-old veteran is expected to make one more start at Triple-A before being activated. He has been out since mid-May after suffering strains and sprains to the ligaments of his right foot and ankle. He was pitching well before the injury, going 3-2 with a 3.13 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP over seven starts. Now's the time to make sure he's not on the waiver wire in your league. He's nearing a return and has a chance to be a solid rotation arm for fantasy the rest of the way this year.--Andrew Ericksen - RotoBallerSource: MiLB.com
Share:
3 months agoHouston Astros pitcher Jake Odorizzi (leg) threw a bullpen session on Saturday and could begin a rehab assignment soon. The veteran right-hander has thrown successful bullpen sessions over the past few weeks. He has been sidelined since May 16 due to strains and sprains to the ligaments of his right foot/ankle. The 32-year-old will continue to ramp up his activity and is on target to return in early July. He owned a 3.13 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 21:12 K:BB across 31 2/3 innings before the injury. Fantasy managers in deep-league formats can continue to stash Odorizzi.--Brad Camara - RotoBallerSource: Brian McTaggart of MLB.com
Share:
4 months agoHouston Astros starting pitcher Jake Odorizzi (ankle) was able to successfully throw a 20-pitch bullpen session on Tuesday. The right-hander has been sidelined since mid-May due to a left ankle injury. Odorizzi has been ramping up his work, so hopefully he won't be sidelined for too much longer. He was holding a 3.13 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 21/12 K/BB ratio through seven starts before the injury. Hopefully, fantasy managers will have him back by the end of June.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: Brian McTaggart
Share:
4 months agoHouston Astros starting pitcher Jake Odorizzi (leg) threw a 57-pitch, three-inning bullpen session on June 4 and didn't have any complications. Manager Dusty Baker said there's no timetable for Odorizzi to start a minor league rehab assignment, however. The 32-year-old has now thrown two bullpen sessions, but the Astros are taking it slow with him. Given his slow progression, Odorizzi might not be able to return to Houston's starting rotation until later this month. Before going on the shelf, he had been solid in seven starts this year, posting a 3.13 ERA and 1.17 WHIP with 21 strikeouts and 12 walks in 312/3 innings pitched for the 'Stros.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com - Robert Falkoff
Share:
4 months agoHouston Astros right-hander Jake Odorizzi (ankle) threw a bullpen session on Friday ahead of his team's game against the Seattle Mariners. Odorizzi tossed 41 pitches in the session, his second of the week, as he works his way back from the injured list. The veteran hurler appeared to injure himself badly last week, with some fearing he ruptured his Achilles, but instead Odorizzi is trending toward a return. He has made seven starts this season, posting a 3.13 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and 21 strikeouts in 31 2/3 innings of work.--Matt T - RotoBallerSource: Brian McTaggert on Twitter
