Tyler Soderstrom Launches Pair Of Home Runs
21 mins agoOakland Athletics' top prospect Tyler Soderstrom posted his second multi-home run game of the season. The 21-year-old is now slashing .255/.304/.532 with 12 home runs through 46 games with Triple-A Las Vegas. Soderstrom's hitting ability is advanced for his age, and he figures to be a candidate for promotion to the majors at some point in 2023. Whether the Athletics will utilize him as a catcher or first baseman remains to be seen, but Soderstrom's positional flexibility will help expedite his road to the big leagues. Soderstrom should already be stashed in deeper fantasy formats.Source: MLB Pipeline
Jose Alvarado Could Be Back Next Weekend
50 mins agoPhiladelphia Phillies reliever Jose Alvarado (elbow) could return for next weekend's home series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The left-hander had five saves and four holds before going down with elbow inflammation on May 8. He's been spending time with Triple-A Lehigh Valley and is expected to make one more appearance in the minors. If things go well, he'll be back, which is good news for the fantasy managers who've had him stashed on the injured list.Source: Corey Seidman
Andruw Monasterio Injured On Sunday
1 hour agoMilwaukee Brewers infielder Andruw Monasterio (head) hit his first career homer in Sunday's win over the Reds. Unfortunately, Monasterio's day went downhill from there, as he was forced to exit the game after accidentally getting hit in the head by Will Benson during a pickoff attempt. The 26-year-old complained of a "slight headache" and will undergo an exam to determine the extent of the injury, meaning his availability for Monday's finale with Cincinnati is up in the air. Monasterio was replaced by Mike Brosseau, who went hitless in three at-bats.Source: Adam McCalvy
White Sox Release Hanser Alberto
1 hour agoThe White Sox released infielder Hanser Alberto on Sunday. The 30-year-old spent time in the lineup while Elvis Andrus (oblique) was on the shelf. However, the team designated him for assignment a few days ago, a move made to prepare for his unconditional release. Alberto was hitting .220 in 82 at-bats this season, one of the lowest marks of his career. He'll likely find his way on another team, although it won't make much of a difference for fantasy managers, considering he wasn't on many rosters, to begin with.Source: Daryl Van Schouwen
Cody Bellinger Not Expected Back During Road Trip
2 hours agoChicago Cubs outfielder Cody Bellinger (knee) has made "good strides" in the last few days. However, Bellinger isn't expected back anytime soon, with the veteran stating that a potential return during the team's road trip out west is "probably too aggressive." Bellinger has been running the bases and doing agility work of late. But nobody knows for sure when he'll be back, especially since a rehab stint hasn't been ruled out.Source: Jordan Bastian
Nestor Cortes Won't Start On Wednesday
2 hours agoAccording to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com, Yankees starting pitcher Nestor Cortes won't make his next scheduled start on Wednesday versus Chicago. No reason was provided, and the team hasn't announced who will replace him in the rotation. The 28-year-old has struggled this season, to a degree, amassing a 5.16 ERA, a significant decline from 2022. At any rate, hopefully, Cortes isn't dealing with anything severe, and he'll be ready to get back on the bump the next time around.Source: Bryan Hoch
Christian Walker Absent From Lineup Again On Sunday
3 hours agoArizona Diamondbacks first baseman Christian Walker is sitting out of the lineup on Sunday against the Atlanta Braves. It will be only the 32-year-old's fourth absence of the season, but notably his second in as many days, in 59 possible games. Walker has no injury designation at this juncture, so we'd expect him to return for the start of a three-game set with the Washington Nationals beginning on Tuesday. Perhaps the Diamondbacks will provide some clarity on his status soon. Emmanuel Rivera is at the cold corner and batting fifth versus Michael Soroka on Sunday. Rivera could be worth a gander in DFS while functioning from the Arizona's heart of the order and hitting .341 with an .828 OPS in 82 at-bats this year.Source: Arizona Diamondbacks Twitter
Brandon Lowe Dealing With Leg Pain
3 hours agoTampa Bay Rays second baseman Brandon Lowe (leg) is hampered by left leg discomfort, which caused his removal from the lineup card right before Sunday's matinee with the Boston Red Sox. The 28-year-old is considered day-to-day, so hopefully he can get back on the field relatively soon. Lowe may not require a stay on the injured list. Since a roaring start to the year, the former All-Star has plummeted by hitting .157 (16-for-102) with two homers and 11 RBI over his last 28 games. Keep an eye on his status ahead of Monday's series finale with the BoSox.Source: Marc Topkin - Tampa Bay Times
Zach Plesac Designated For Assignment
3 hours agoCleveland Guardians starting pitcher Zach Plesac was designated for assignment by the team's front office on Sunday. The 28-year-old became especially expendable with Triston McKenzie's return plus the integration of a number of top prospects into Cleveland's rotation this year. Plesac looked like an ace in the making during a breakout 2020, notching a 2.28 ERA and 0.80 WHIP in 55 1/3 innings during the truncated campaign. The right-hander has a suppressed 4.76 ERA and 1.41 WHIP over 153 innings since 2022. Plesac might latch on to a pitcher-needy club soon, but his redraft fantasy value is virtually nonexistent currently.Source: Robert Murray - FanSided
Michael Conforto Can’t Get Back Into Lineup On Sunday
3 hours agoSan Francisco Giants outfielder Michael Conforto (heel) could not return to Sunday's lineup for the series finale with the Baltimore Orioles. The 30-year-old has now accumulated four consecutive absences from the lineup, but it's worth mentioning he was able to pinch-hit on Friday. Conforto will have a day off in between Sunday's contest and Tuesday's series opener against the Colorado Rockies to get back on the field. The former All-Star was on a tear before the setback, hitting .393 with a 1.148 OPS to go with six homers and 16 RBI across his previous 16 games started.Source: San Francisco Giants Twitter
Anthony Rendon Likely To Return This Week
4 hours agoLos Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (groin) appears to be on the precipice of returning to the lineup. The 32-year-old was last in there on May 13, but patient fantasy managers should expect to get Rendon back from a groin injury by the middle of Week 11, either on Tuesday or Wednesday, per manager Phil Nevin. The former Washington Nationals standout was on a heater in 16 games before the setback, hitting .368 (21-for-57) with a .953 OPS and 11 RBI over this period. Upon his return, Rendon should slot right back into Anaheim's heart of the order. That gives the two-time Silver Slugger some serious RBI potential with Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout in front of him.Source: Sam Blum - The Athletic
Sean Murphy Taking A Seat On Sunday
4 hours agoAtlanta Braves catcher Sean Murphy is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. It'll be veteran Travis d'Arnaud starting behind the dish and batting cleanup against Zac Gallen and the D-Backs. Murphy has a shot to appear as a pinch-hitter so he's worth leaving in your lineup, as most fantasy managers don't have two catchers on their roster anyway.Source: MLB.com
Alex Wood Lands On The 15-day Injured List
4 hours agoSan Francisco Giants left-handed pitcher Alex Wood (back) has been placed on the 15-day injured list with a lower back strain. Wood didn't look very sharp in his last outing when he coughed up six earned runs over 4 1/3 innings against the Pirates and has looked mediocre overall this season with a 4.80 ERA and 1.60 WHIP (30 innings). Wood has no timetable for his return at the moment. Right-handed pitcher Tristan Beck was recalled from Triple-Sacramento in a corresponding move.Source: San Francisco Giants on Twitter
Gunnar Henderson Not In The Lineup On Sunday
4 hours agoBaltimore Orioles third baseman Gunnar Henderson (back) is not in the lineup for Sunday's series finale against the San Francisco Giants. Henderson was dealing with some lower back discomfort, which forced him to leave Saturday's contest early. His absence on Sunday is related to that same issue so hopefully, the day of rest helps him avoid an IL stint. Josh Lester is taking over at the hot corner and batting seventh against the Giants.Source: MLB.com
Leody Taveras Taking A Seat On Sunday
4 hours agoTexas Rangers outfielder Leody Taveras is absent from the lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Seattle Mariners. This is just a routine day off for the 24-year-old outfielder, who's been terrific this season for the Rangers. Taveras is slashing .306/.360/.452 with three home runs, 23 RBI, and five stolen bases over 157 at-bats. Travis Jankowski is taking over in center field and batting ninth against Bryce Miller and the M's.Source: MLB.com
