Yadier Molina Could Retire
4 years agoFree-agent catcher Yadier Molina remains unsigned with around a month remaining before pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report to spring training. The 38-year-old would prefer to return to the St. Louis Cardinals for two more years, and the team has mutual interest in bringing him back, but Molina said that he will consider retirement if an appealing offer isn't out there. The Cardinals have remained in contact with Molina's representatives, but they are being patient while determining their budget given the uncertainty due to COVID-19. The Nationals and Angels are reportedly interested in Molina, but his market may not materialize until J.T. Realmuto finds a landing spot. Heading into his 18th MLB season, Molina remains a fine defensive catcher, but his bat has tailed off in recent seasons, making him more of an option in two-catcher formats.
