William Byron Maintains A Top-10 Finish At Atlanta
1 month agoIn Sunday's Quaker State 400 at Atlanta Motor Speedway, William Byron finished ninth. Starting the race from the same exact position, Byron drove a quiet race and ran inside the Top 10 during the first two stages. At the end of the first stage, Byron placed eighth, capturing three stage points in the process. By the time the second stage wrapped up, Byron rose up to fifth and collected six more stage points. The final stage is where Byron started making moves to compete for the lead. The No. 24 Chevrolet driver did make it to the front on lap 232, but it would be short-lived as Ty Gibbs passed him. Byron continued to run inside the Top 10 leading up to the race's final restart, where he was looking to place in the Top 5 until he fell back due to a lack of drafting help. After briefly dropping out of the Top 10, Byron made it back to ninth, nabbing his third top-10 finish at AMS since 2022. With the Cup Series next heading to Watkins Glen, Byron is expected to be one of the favorites to compete as he dominated in his last appearance there to be the track's most recent winner.
