Texans Cut Darren Fells
4 years agoThe Houston Texans released tight end Darren Fells, according to a league source. He was due a $1.5 million non-guaranteed salary in 2021. The Texans also released punter Bryan Anger. The 34-year-old Fells had 55 catches, 653 yards and 11 touchdowns in two seasons with Houston. He was one of quarterback Deshaun Watson's favorite targets in recent seasons. The team traded for former New England Patriots tight end Ryan Izzo to help replace Fells on the roster. Fells' career season came in 2019, when he had 34 receptions for 341 yards and a career-high seven touchdowns while setting a Texans record for most red-zone catches by a tight end. Jordan Akins could be the leader of the tight end depth chart with Fells out of the picture, but Houston also has Pharaoh Brown and Kahale Warring in addition to Izzo.
