Tanner Houck Likely To Start Next Wednesday
3 years agoBoston Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that right-hander Tanner Houck will be used as a reliever in the series with the New York Yankees to open the second half of the season, but he will most likely start on Wednesday against the Toronto Blue Jays. In just three outings (two starts) over 10 1/3 innings, the team's No. 6 prospect has allowed five earned runs on 14 hits while striking out 12 and walking just one. Houck has a nice 1.98 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 10.9 K/9 in the big leagues, but he's thrown just 27 1/3 innings and missed some time earlier this year in the minors with an arm injury. In six starts (21 innings) at Triple-A Worcester in 2021, Houck has a 5.14 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 11.1 K/9. The 25-year-old can be tricky on right-handed hitters with his low-three-quarters arm slot and a two-seam fastball with heavy sink. Houck will have some streaming appeal in deeper leagues, but next week against Toronto will probably be more risk than reward.
