Taijuan Walker Becomes A Free Agent
2 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Taijuan Walker opted out of the final season of his deal with the Mets on Monday and has become a free agent. Walker joins rotation mates Jacob deGrom and Chris Bassitt in opting out of their deals. Neither move comes as a surprise. The 30-year-old Walker was an All-Star with the Mets in his first year with the team in 2021. He was solid again in 2022, going 12-5 with a 3.49 ERA (3.65 FIP), a 1.19 WHIP and a 132:45 K:BB in 157 1/3 innings pitched over 29 starts. He will forego his $6 million player option for the 2023 with hopes of landing of more lucrative multi-year deal on the open market this offseason.
