Starling Marte Undergoes Surgery For Core Muscle Injury
2 years agoNew York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (core) underwent surgery on Tuesday to fix a core muscle injury "sustained in the second half of the season," according to the team. Marte is expected to be "without restriction" in spring training next year. He's expected to be recovered in around eight weeks and can then begin his offseason preparations for next year. The 34-year-old also fractured a finger in early September, and although he made it back for the Wild-Card Series against the San Diego Padres, he was still visibly in pain when swinging the bat. Marte made his second career All-Star squad in his first year in the Big Apple in 2022 by slashing a strong .292/.347/.468 with an .814 OPS, 16 home runs, 63 RBI, 76 runs scored and 18 stolen bases in 118 regular season games.
