Spencer Arrighetti Plays Catch
Spencer Arrighetti (thumb) was able to play catch on Wednesday, according to the Houston Chronicle's Matt Kawahara. It was the first time that Arrighetti was allowed to play catch since fracturing his right thumb back on April 7. The Astros desperately need the 25-year-old back in their starting rotation now that both Hayden Wesneski and Ronel Blanco are out for the season due to elbow injuries, but Arrighetti isn't expected to be able to return from the 60-day injured list until sometime in July. He will definitely have a spot in the rotation waiting for him when he's finally cleared to return to the big leagues. The former sixth-round pick in 2021 out of Louisiana at Lafayette had an up-and-down rookie year in 2024 and had a 5.59 ERA and 0.93 WHIP with eight K's and five walks in his two starts before fracturing his thumb this year.
