Shohei Ohtani Will Be Two-Way Player Once Season Begins
4 years agoLos Angeles Angels starting pitcher/designated hitter Shohei Ohtani (elbow) is expected to be on the mound at the outset of training camp later this week, according to general manager Billy Eppler. Ohtani will be a two-way player from the start of the 2020 season, which will begin in late July. The Japanese two-way star was one of the players that benefited from the shutdown of the season due to COVID-19, as he wasn't expected to be ready to pitch until mid-May. Now, he'll be part of the rotation on Opening Day and should serve as the designated hitter against right-handed pitchers. Ohtani has more upside as a pitcher, but expect the Halos to be extra careful with him during the 60-game season. His power/speed combination as a position player carries plenty of value in DFS and redraft leagues.
