Salvador Perez Close To 100 Percent
5 years agoKansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez (elbow) caught a bullpen session during the team's first spring training workout on Wednesday and said his surgically repaired right elbow is at "90 percent." Perez hurt his elbow in spring training last year and required Tommy John surgery, missing the entire 2019 season. He is hitting and throwing to bases and expects to be ready for Opening Day. Perez is a five-time Gold Glove winner and won the 2015 World Series MVP. His average dropped under .240 in 2018, but he managed 27 home runs in both 2017 and 2018, making him a high-end fantasy catching target coming off injury. To give Perez a break behind the plate, manager Mike Matheny said he's not ruling out using him at first base at times in 2020.
