Roberto Perez Begins Rehab Assignment Tuesday
3 years agoCleveland Indians catcher Roberto Perez (finger) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Akron on Tuesday, joining starting pitcher Zach Plesac (thumb) and designated hitter/outfielder Franmil Reyes (oblique). Perez underwent surgery on his right ring finger in early May and is expected to play on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Indians backstop went 2-for-9 in four games for Triple-A Columbus previously, so he's nearing a return to the big leagues. He'll be able to return from the 60-day injured list in early July. The 32-year-old was hitting just .131/.274/.295 with three home runs and nine RBI in 61 at-bats before his injury, and he'll likely split time with Austin Hedges when he returns to action in Cleveland.
