Red Sox Sign Matt Andriese
Deivy Grullon off waivers from the Reds. Andriese made 16 appearances (one start) for the Angels in 2020 and had a 4.50 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and a .184 opponent's batting average while allowing 16 earned runs in 32 innings. The 31-year-old allowed only two runs in 12 1/3 relief innings in eight September outings with no walks and 13 strikeouts. Andriese was taken in the third round by the Padres in 2011 and is 26-34 with a 4.57 ERA in 183 career outings (50 starts) over six seasons with the Rays, Diamondbacks and Angels. He's become mostly a reliever in recent seasons but could serve as a swing man for Boston's rotation, if needed.
