Phillies Decline Jean Segura's Option For 2023
2 years agoThe Philadelphia Phillies declined the club option on second baseman Jean Segura on Monday, making him a free agent. The Phillies will pay Segura a $1 million buyout instead of retaining him for $17 million in 2023. The 32-year-old Dominican played in just 98 regular season games for the Phillies this year due to injury and hit .277/.336/.387 with 10 home runs, 33 RBI, 45 runs scored and 13 stolen bases in 387 plate appearances. In his first career postseason run, Segura went 12-for-56 (.214) with seven RBI, four runs scored, two walks and 14 strikeouts in 17 games. The two-time All-Star is more of a contact over power guy who doesn't run nearly as much as he did in his prime, making him a low-upside fantasy option as he approaches the tail end of his career.
