Patriots Bring Back Justin Bethel
4 years agoThe New England Patriots agreed to a three-year, $6 million deal with special teams ace and cornerback Justin Bethel on Friday, according to league sources. The deal includes $2.75 million in guarantees and some Pro Bowl incentives. The 30-year-old was set to become an unrestricted free agent, but his preference was to stay in New England, where he signed as a free agent in 2019. He led the team with 14 special teams tackles in 2020 (13 solo), and he paired well with long-time Pro Bowler Matthew Slater. The two played a big part in the Patriots No. 1 overall special teams ranking last year. Bethel, a three-time Pro Bowler, was a sixth-round pick of the Cardinals in 2012 out of Presbyterian.
