Lamar Jackson Not An Option For Commanders
3 weeks agoWashington Commanders head coach Ron Rivera said that the team isn't seeking another quarterback whose status or salary would automatically top Sam Howell's. Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson, who received the non-exclusive franchise tag on Tuesday, is not coming to the Commanders. Jacoby Brissett and Andy Dalton are more realistic for Washington, with either likely competing with Howell this summer. Gardner Minshew, Teddy Bridgewater and Taylor Heinicke could work as bridge QBs. However, many wonder whether Heinicke would want to return after being benched for Carson Wentz late last year. There have been reports that talks of re-signing Heinicke have increased, and it would be his best shot at becoming the starter in D.C. because of Howell's lack of experience.Source: The Athletic - Ben Standig
Tristan Wirfs Could Be Moving To Left Side
3 weeks agoThe Tampa Bay Buccaneers have discussed the possibility of moving All-Pro right tackle Tristan Wirfs to the left side in 2023. He would have to be comfortable with the move, but the early belief is that he's open to the possibility. It makes even more sense after the team just released left tackle Donovan Smith for salary cap purposes on Tuesday. Wirfs has made the Pro Bowl each of the last two seasons, but there's no guarantee he'd be as effective on Tampa's O-line while serving as the starting left tackle. The 24-year-old missed three games in 2022 with an ankle injury but didn't miss a single game in the first two seasons of his career.Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler
Jawaan Taylor Could Have Massive Market
3 weeks agoJacksonville Jaguars impending free-agent right tackle Jawaan Taylor could have a massive free-agent market, and some believe he could command up to $17-18 million per year. Pass-protecting right tackles are scarce, which is why the Jaguars are pushing hard to keep him around. Jacksonville already used the franchise tag on tight end Evan Engram, but they want to retain Taylor as well. The 25-year-old has started every game for the Jaguars in the last four years after originally being a second-round selection in the 2019 NFL draft out of the University of Florida.Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler
Cowboys Working To Keep Tyron Smith
3 weeks agoThe Dallas Cowboys are working on a contract extension to bring eight-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle Tyron Smith back for a 13th season, which could include a restructured contract, according to sources. Smith is due $13.6 million in 2023 in the final year of his deal. Some have predicting the Cowboys to potentially move on from Smith this offseason after he played in just four games in 2023 due to an avulsion fracture in his left knee. The 32-year-old recently had a cleanup procedure and will be hoping to be ready for training camp this summer. The former ninth overall pick in 2011 has played in a combined 17 games the last three years and has become much harder to rely on for Dallas' O-line.Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler
Bears Give Khari Blasingame A Two-Year Extension
3 weeks agoThe Chicago Bears and running back Khari Blasingame agreed to an undisclosed two-year contract extension on Wednesday. Blasingame spent the 2022 campaign with the Bears. He played in 16 games but didn't see a single carry and whiffed on his only target in the passing game on offense while serving as the team's fullback. The 26-year-old was obviously used solely as a blocker and will likely continue to do so in 2023. In his four-year NFL career, Blasingame has only three carries for six yards and has caught 10 of 13 targets for 97 yards. He's not on the fantasy radar whatsoever.Source: Team IFA
Jets Restructure C.J. Uzomah's Deal
3 weeks agoThe New York Jets restructured tight end C.J. Uzomah's contract on Wednesday by converting $4.5 million of his salary into a bonus, which will clear $3.6 million in salary cap space in 2023. It saves the Jets some money this year, but Uzomah will now count $12.5 million against the cap in 2024. The 30-year-old could very well be a cap casualty next offseason unless he improves on his numbers from his first year in New York in 2022, when he caught just 21 passes for 232 yards and two touchdowns in 15 games played. He won't be much to look at yet again in fantasy in 2023 with Tyler Conklin taking away valuable playing time.Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero
Cardinals Release Chosen Anderson
3 weeks agoThe Arizona Cardinals officially released wide receiver Chosen Anderson on Wednesday. The artist formerly known as Robbie Anderson will get a bit of a head start on the free-agent market in a move that was expected. The 29-year-old had the worst season of his career in 2022 with the Cardinals and Carolina Panthers, catching 20 of his 44 targets for just 282 receiving yards and one touchdown in 16 games (seven starts). After his trade to Arizona, he caught just seven of his 17 targets for 76 yards and no scores in the desert. The Cardinals will save $12 million in salary cap space with the move. Anderson has done very little since his only 1,000-yard season with Carolina in 2020.Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter
DeAndre Hopkins Will Be Flexible With Contract
3 weeks agoArizona Cardinals wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins admitted on The Pat McAfee Show this week that he's "been hearing a lot of trade talks." If Hopkins were to be traded this offseason, sources are saying he'd be flexible on the last two years of his contract instead of shooting for a top-of-the-market deal. He's set to make $19.5 million this year and $14.9 million in 2024, but interested teams may need to shed more salary cap space before taking on Hopkins' remaining contract in a trade. The 30-year-old five-time Pro Bowler still has a lot of good football left in him, but he has disappointed the last two seasons with the Cardinals due to injury and suspension, catching a combined 106 passes for 1,289 yards and 11 touchdowns in 19 total games. Perhaps a change of scenery will get him back on track.Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport
Devon Achane Runs Fastest 40 Among RBs At NFL Combine
3 weeks agoTexas A&M running back Devon Achane was expected to be a blazer at the 2023 NFL Combine in Indianapolis, and he didn't disappoint. Achane finished first among running backs with a 4.32 40-yard dash. However, he weighed in at just 188 pounds, so he finished fifth among running back in speed score. It's tough to expect Achane to ever get a hefty workload in the NFL at his size, but he could be a nice change of pace back and third-down receiving option at the next level. The 21-year-old posted 1,102 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns on 196 carries and caught 36 passes for 196 yards and three receiving touchdowns for the Aggies in his third and final season in the SEC.Source: ESPN
Zach Charbonnet Has Solid Outing At NFL Combine
3 weeks agoUCLA running back Zach Charbonnet posted the third-highest relative athletic score (RAS) at the NFL combine among 2023 running back prospects. RAS scores factor in height, weight, vertical jump, 40-yard dash time, bench press reps, and more to determine how athletic a prospect is. Charbonnet posted a 9.62 (out of 10) RAS score with a 4.52 40-yard dash time, a 1.54 10-yard split time, a 37-inch vertical jump, and a 10 feet two-inch broad jump. The 214-pound back posted 3,346 rushing yards and 39 rushing touchdowns and caught 75 passes for 589 yards during his four seasons at Michigan and UCLA. If he is selected before day 3 of the 2023 NFL Draft, he will be a hot dynasty prospect this offseason.Source: Kent Lee Platte
Cowboys Could Cut Ezekiel Elliott
3 weeks agoThe Dallas Cowboys would save $4.8 million on the 2023 salary cap by releasing running back Ezekiel Elliott this offseason. They'd save $10.9 million if they designate him as a post-June 1 cut. Elliott doesn't have anymore guaranteed money left on his deal, so it wouldn't be surprising to see the Cowboys move on, especially with Tony Pollard secured on the franchise tag this year. Dallas is looking to add more explosive playmakers, and Elliott hasn't shown much explosiveness in the last couple of seasons. If the 27-year-old stays with the team, he'll likely be taking a pay cut in 2023. Pollard will take over as the team's primary running back this year, so Elliott will be more of a short-yardage/goal-line player if he stays with the Cowboys for another season.Source: ESPN.com - Dan Graziano
Titans Have Had Extension Discussions With Jeffery Simmons
3 weeks agoThe Tennessee Titans and defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons have had talks about a long-term deal. Simmons is currently scheduled to play the 2023 season on his fifth-year option at $10.753 million, but he has outplayed that. He recorded 7.5 sacks and 27 pressures from the interior last year and has been a Pro Bowler in back-to-back seasons. On top of it, the 25-year-old pass-rusher battled through an ankle injury in 15 starts in 2022. In the last two years with Tennessee, Simmons has 67 solo tackles, 21 tackles for loss, 30 QB hits, 16 sacks, 13 passes defensed and a forced fumble in 32 games started.Source: ESPN.com - Dan Graziano
Panthers Could Trade Up For A Quarterback
3 weeks agoThe Carolina Panthers could be a team to watch in the top 10 of this year's NFL draft that could trade up to take a quarterback. They currently have the No. 9 overall pick, right behind the Atlanta Falcons and Las Vegas Raiders, both of whom could be going QB with their picks. Sources at the NFL combine last week expect the Panthers to be aggressive in their efforts to move up and secure their franchise signal-caller. The top option would be to trade up to first overall with the Chicago Bears to have their choice of QB, but it remains to be seen if that will happen. Even if Carolina secures their QB of the future early on in this year's draft, they could re-sign Sam Darnold to have him serve as a stopgap under center.Source: ESPN.com - Dan Graziano
Clyde Edwards-Helaire A Trade Candidate?
3 weeks agoSome NFL teams have Kansas City Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire on their radar as a potential trade option, but ESPN's Jeremy Fowler doesn't think the Chiefs are actively shopping him at this time. It could be more of a "we will listen" situation this offseason. The 23-year-old has been a big first-round bust for the Chiefs to this point after his first three seasons. CEH hasn't played in more than 13 games in a single season, and he carried the ball a career-low 71 times for 302 yards and three touchdowns, adding 17 receptions for 151 yards and three more TDs in 10 regular season games (six starts) in 2022. At this point, Edwards-Helaire's best path back into fantasy relevance would probably be a trade out of town.Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler
Chiefs Bracing To Lose Mecole Hardman
3 weeks agoThe Kansas City Chiefs are bracing to lose impending free-agent wide receiver Mecole Hardman, who should have a sneaky good market this offseason despite playing in just eight games in 2022 due to injury. With Hardman likely gone, the Chiefs are expected to attempt to re-sign JuJu Smith-Schuster. Hardman had groin surgery at the end of February, but he should be ready for the start of the 2023 season, barring a setback. The 24-year-old was productive for the Chiefs in his limited action last year, catching 25 of his 34 targets for 297 yards and four touchdowns, including scores in each of his last three regular season games. Depending on where he winds up in free agency, Hardman could also be a sneaky value pick in fantasy drafts.Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler
